Blocking apps sound good in theory. In practice, you turn them off the moment they get in the way, and then feel worse about it. Break Check brings your screen time down without blocking a thing. You see how long you have been going, get a nudge when your time is up, and decide what happens next. No locked screens, no workarounds, no shame spiral. TRACK ANY HABIT, NOT JUST SCREEN TIME Doomscrolling, binge watching, gaming, the gym, shopping, reading, a bathroom break that got away from you. If you can start it and stop it, you can put it on a timer. SET A DAILY GOAL Give a habit a daily limit. Stay under it and the day counts as a win. Every day you meet your goal adds to your streak. NO HARD CUTOFFS When your time is up you get a gentle notification and the timer keeps counting, so you always know where you stand. Need longer? Add a few minutes with one tap. OR A REAL ALARM For a habit that needs a firmer stop, end the session with a full alarm instead. It gets through silent mode and Focus. NOTHING TO FORGET Timers can start and stop on their own: when you open an app, when you arrive somewhere, or at a time you pick each night. Your social apps can run their own timer. The gym one starts when you walk in. Setup takes about a minute. CONTROL IT FROM ANYWHERE A running timer sits in your Dynamic Island, Notification Center and Lock Screen, so you can check it or pause it without opening anything. Start one from Control Center, your Action Button, or a Home Screen widget. SEE WHERE YOUR TIME GOES Watch each day add up, spot your patterns, and see how close you are to your goal. Your time is kept as real sessions rather than one daily total, so you can find the hour you did not know you were spending. LIFE HAPPENS Waiting at the doctor? Long train ride? Some phone time should not count. Snooze every timer at once and take a guilt free break. No streak broken, no pressure. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account. Nothing to sign up for, ever. Break Check never asks for Screen Time access and never sees which apps you open, only the timers you start. Your habits sync through your own iCloud and are never collected or sold. YOUR FIRST TIMER IS ALWAYS FREE Not a trial. Track one habit for as long as you like, at no cost. Unlimited adds the rest: a timer for every habit, full alarm alerts, and the button that snoozes them all. Monthly, yearly, or a one-time purchase that is yours forever. Quick count: driver's license, car registration, car insurance, health insurance, passport, a certification or two, some memberships, a warranty. Now add your kids' documents. And your parents'. Any one of them is easy to remember. All of them together is not. That is the whole problem. Nobody forgets a passport because passports are hard. It was item eleven of fifteen, and nothing was keeping the list. DocDoc keeps the list, and reminds you while there is still time to do something about it. ONE LIST FOR EVERYONE YOU LOOK AFTER Add a profile for each person you track things for, and one for the car while you are at it. Profiles are free and unlimited, because the person who needs this app most is running a whole household. Reminders say who: "Emma's Passport expires in 90 days." EVERYTHING WITH A DATE, IN ONE PLACE Passports, licenses, registrations, insurance of every kind, professional licenses and certifications, visas, permits, memberships, warranties, inspections. If it expires, it goes on the list, sorted by what needs attention first. REMINDERS THAT ACTUALLY REMIND Nudges 90, 30, and 7 days before anything expires, and again on the day itself. Passports get a 6 month heads up too, because many countries turn you away if your passport expires within six months of travel. Day-of reminders use Time Sensitive notifications so they are hard to miss. You choose the lead times and the time of day. Optional email reminders back you up on the days your phone is off. SCAN THE DATE, SKIP THE TYPING Point the camera at a passport or license and DocDoc reads the expiration date on your device. Passport dates are verified with the check digits built into the passport itself. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Your documents are never uploaded to us. Scanning happens on your phone, and the photo is saved with your document, encrypted, deletable any time. No analytics, no ads, no tracking. Email reminders are optional: turn them on and DocDoc creates an account with Sign in with Apple, storing only your email address and the reminder details it needs to send. Delete it in Settings whenever you like, and everything we stored goes with it. BUILT FOR REAL RENEWALS Mark a document renewed and the old date moves to history. Recurring documents roll forward automatically. Widgets put your next expiration on your home screen and lock screen. Attach receipts, photos, or PDFs, stored on your device and your own iCloud, never on our servers. Lock the whole app with Face ID. DATES IN YOUR OWN CALENDAR Turn on the Hebrew, Islamic, Persian, Indian, Buddhist, Chinese, Japanese or Ethiopic calendar and enter a date the way you actually know it. A yearly repeat advances by one year of that calendar, so a yahrzeit or an annual observance stays on its own date while the Gregorian one moves. Reminders always fire on the Gregorian date. FREE AND PRO Free includes 5 documents, unlimited profiles, reminders, scanning, widgets and iCloud sync. DocDoc Pro is an auto-renewing subscription that removes the document limit, with a 7 day free trial on the yearly plan. Or invite three friends and get six months of Pro free, no payment needed. DocDoc is made by one independent developer who got tired of expired documents. No venture capital, no growth team, no reason to collect your data. The next renewal is already on its way. Put it on the list. DocDoc Pro is an auto-renewing subscription. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel anytime in your Apple Account settings. Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: DocDoc at 5.0 against Screen Time's 4.6. Screen Time's advantage is ratings volume (12 vs 2) and iOS requirement (17.0 vs 26.0). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
