A workout app that is ACTUALLY free. Build your split, log every set, and watch progress compound without the spreadsheet chaos. Maxlyft is a strength training app for lifters who want clear structure and honest numbers. YOUR SPLIT, YOUR WAY Create a rotating or weekly split with named days, rest days, and optional colors. Attach a routine to a training day, or start an empty workout when the plan changes. Your active split keeps today’s training ready to go — open the app and lift. LOG WITHOUT FRICTION Start today’s planned workout, resume mid-session after closing the app, or log freely. Sets are completed as you log them, and your last-session numbers appear as helpful references. A live timer, set count, and volume stay on screen while you train. Log barbell, dumbbell, bodyweight, assisted, duration, and distance work — including per-side weight. PRS THAT ACTUALLY MEAN SOMETHING Maxlyft highlights new records automatically and lets you track custom lifetime marks — best at a chosen weight, rep target, time, or distance. Finished workouts show a crown when you hit a PR. INSIGHTS, NOT NOISE See volume, sets, training time, and muscle-group distribution across 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, 1 year, or all time. Filter by muscle or split day. Open any exercise for lifetime totals, records, and charts tailored to how you track it. BUILT AROUND YOUR LIBRARY No giant canned catalog to fight. Name your own exercises, tag muscles, save routines, and reuse them. Rename a lift and your history stays with it. TRAIN OFFLINE. KEEP YOUR DATA SYNCED. Logging is local-first, so a dead gym signal doesn’t stop the session. Sign in with Apple or Google to sync and restore your data across devices. HOME SCREEN WIDGETS Check today’s session or your last 7 days of volume without opening the app. HOW TO GET STARTED - Choose your units and build your first split — rotating or weekly. - Add the lifts you actually do. - Start today’s workout from Train and log your sets. - Check Insights after a few sessions to see the trend. Your steps. Now it's a race. Stride is a step counter with a finish line. Your friends run beside you on a real track, each one a different-colored Bib, and the finish line is your daily goal. Stride also turns the steps you already walk into a weekly competition against real people. Every Monday you join a league group of up to 30. Every Sunday the top finishers move up and the bottom ones move down. No equipment, no workouts to log — just walk. WEEKLY LEAGUES Twelve leagues, Bronze to Immortal, stacked like floors of one mountain. Your daily step total is your score. Watch the board move in real time, see exactly how many steps put you in the promotion places, and find out where you finished when the season closes. RACE A FRIEND Challenge anyone to a head-to-head: most steps over three days, first to 50,000, or a weekend sprint. Everyone runs on a real track — each friend a different-colored Bib, the finish line at the target — so you see who's ahead, down to the last step. STREAKS AND MARKS Hit your daily goal to build a streak. Bib, your running buddy, will let you know — loudly — when it's about to break. Earn marks for the milestones that actually took effort. WIDGETS WITH PRO Today's progress, your league rank, your streak and your race, on the Home Screen and the Lock Screen, updated through the day. STEP HISTORY Every day you've walked since you installed Stride, week by week, with your goal line drawn through it. PRIVATE BY DEFAULT Stride reads one thing from Apple Health: your daily step count. No workouts, no location, no routes. No ads, no trackers, no data sold. Delete your account in Settings and everything goes with it. STRIDE PRO Monthly, yearly (starting with a 7-day free trial) or once for life. Streak freezes (miss a day, keep your streak) and a monthly streak repair, a League Shield (stay in your league once a month), Home and Lock Screen widgets, your own Bib — colour, headband, shirt, shades, a cap or a crown, and your friends see it — unlimited races, advanced statistics and the full history. The leagues, streaks and friend races are free forever. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Stride at none against Maxlyft's shown. Stride also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 88%) and iOS requirement (17.0 vs 26.1). Maxlyft's advantage is ratings volume (18 vs 2). On price, rating, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Maxlyft sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Stride sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Stride holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Maxlyft has 18 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 88% of Maxlyft's written reviews are positive against 100% of Stride's.
Maxlyft ships an update every 2 days, Stride every 4 days. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
