Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: JX Reader at none against NewsBlock's shown. JX Reader also leads on chart position (#101 vs unranked). NewsBlock's advantage is update cadence (every 3 days vs every 4 weeks) and ratings volume (17 vs 2). On price, rating, review sentiment and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for JX Reader against 5.0 for NewsBlock. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: NewsBlock has 17 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.
JX Reader ships an update every 4 weeks, NewsBlock every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
