The sound engine of the legendary Waldorf Streichfett hardware is now available for iPad including AUv3 format. The Streichfett takes you back to the days of the legendary String Machines. In the old days, there was no choice – to create a massive wall of sound, you simply needed a String Machine. It was the time when composing contemporary music had no resemblance to doing your annual tax return on a PC. It was the golden years of rock and pop, when even keyboard players simply plugged their instrument into the amp and started playing, instead of labouring over endless preset lists in search of the perfect sound. Now there is Streichfett – and the good old days are coming back. Experience what a real String Synthesizer sounds like. Experience how a homogeneous, extremely dense, floating web of sounds can be created from a raw, basic electronic sound in just a few simple steps. Streichfett combines the best of the previously extinct species of String Synthesizers of the 70s and early 80s. Its dual sound engine features a fully polyphonic String Section and an eight voice Solo Section, which is essential for recreating classic movie sounds from the 70s and 80s. The Ensemble Effect provides depth and movement to the String Section, while the Effects Section adds adjustable Phaser and Reverb effects. Additionally, the Animate Effect can be used to modulate the Strings Registration, allowing spectacular sound morphs. The Solo Section offers presets named Bass, E-Piano or Clavi, and just like with a typical String Machine, the sound has little to do with that name. Instead, these are shimmering and slightly percussive sounds that blend well with the String Section. Although the User Interface is simple and easy to comprehend, it controls a rather complex sound engine which is capable of delivering rich and creamy pads unlike any other instrument.

ANALOGyDR Drum Synth (AUv3) ANALOGyDR is a virtual instrument plugin that can run standalone, or in any AU compatible host such as Logic Pro or GarageBand. Please note that the standalone version does not include a built-in keyboard - you need to connect a suitable MIDI device to play the synth. *** IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ *** ANALOGyDR is a single voice (monophonic) virtual analog synthesiser designed specifically for creating drum and percussion type sounds. Please note that it is not a pitched instrument for playing melodic lines, and does not include a rhythm pattern sequencer. To create a virtual drum kit with ANALOGyDR you need to load multiple instances on separate tracks in a DAW such as Logic or GarageBand and record MIDI notes into each track. Design Overview ANALOGyDR is a tribute to the now legendary vintage analog drum machines that used simple synthesis engines to create their sounds by combining basic oscillators and noise sources. ANALOGyDR has two variable pitch sine wave oscillators, along with white and pink noise generators, three filter types and an analog flavoured drive section. Despite the basic design, ANALOGyDR can create quite a wide variety of sonic textures, and the factory presets include a selection of percussion sounds inspired by the Roland CompuRhythm CR-78 (*), along with some interesting effects such as emulations of a cracking whip, a cardboard box and a mouse trap! The single voice architecture of ANALOGyDR is also useful in situations where you might want to add one or two additional percussion sounds to supplement your favourite drum machine app and gives you the flexibility to apply different effects processing to each ANALOGyDR track. Alternatively, use ANALOGyDR as a sound design tool to create your own unique percussion sounds that you can record and then load into your favourite sampler app. The iPad previews were created using multiple ANALOGyDR tracks in GarageBand, plus some reverb and echo from the built-in GarageBand effects. Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is price: ANALOGyDR at $2.99 against Streichfett's $14.99. ANALOGyDR also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and device support (4 vs 2). Streichfett's advantage is review sentiment (70% vs 50%) and ratings volume (19 vs 3). On update cadence, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

ANALOGyDR holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Streichfett has 19 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 70% of Streichfett's written reviews are positive against 50% of ANALOGyDR's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Streichfett ships an update every 4 months, ANALOGyDR every 2 months. Both last shipped on October 30, 2026.
