WanderWay is navigation for everyday drives, scenic trips, and walks. It finds covered bridges, overlooks, and historic places along the way, then guides you there on iPhone and CarPlay. No subscription, no ads, no tracking. Built by Derek Boyer, a solo developer in southern Ohio, and inspired by my wife Jordan's wish for an app that reveals the history and beauty along everyday routes. FREE TO TRY, ONE PURCHASE TO KEEP • Every feature is open for 14 days. The trial doesn't renew and never charges you. • One-time unlock: navigation on iPhone and CarPlay, Story Mode, Narrate Without a Route, Scenic Detours, Curated Routes, walking tours, offline downloads, and searches up to 40 miles. • Always free: nearby places within 5 miles, details and photos, destination search, and route previews. • No account. No location history or routes on a server. Your journal stays on your device. NEW IN 2.3 • Keep Narrating in the Background: WanderWay notices your next drive and keeps telling stories, even with your phone locked. On iPhone, a Live Activity shows what's playing. • Share your Photo Recap as a picture or a short video, with an option to hide place names and the map. • Open a route or place in Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze, or share a route as a GPX file. • A brighter map that follows you more smoothly, plus All, Drive-By, and None category presets. • Still here from 2.2: Walking Tours of 30, 60, or 90 minutes that bring you back to your car, and Sunset Drives that tell you when to leave. STORIES AND DETOURS • Story Mode: hear a short story as you approach a place. With Apple Intelligence, stories are written on your iPhone. • Narrate Without a Route: hear nearby places on any drive, no directions needed. • Scenic Detours: set aside extra minutes and WanderWay picks sights along your way, showing the extra time first. CURATED ROUTES • A scenic loop or a drive to a destination, from 30 minutes to 5 hours • Favor US scenic byways and prefer backroads • Prioritize the places you like, or show only sights you can see from the road KNOW BEFORE YOU GO • Descriptions and photos from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, plus Apple Look Around or Mapillary • United States only: National Park Service hours, fees, and alerts, Recreation.gov, the National Register of Historic Places, and National Weather Service alerts • Opening hours, with a warning if a stop will be closed when you arrive, and EV charger status from Open Charge Map ON THE ROAD • Saved When You Start: WanderWay can download the route as you set off, so sights and descriptions stay with you. On cellular data, it asks first. • Places you've loaded refresh in the background once they're a week old. • Add a Stop without ending guidance. My Places: Home, Work, and your own places, also with Siri. • Journal and Passport: every drive and walk saved, with stamps, milestones, and a Home Screen widget • Map type: Standard, Satellite, or Hybrid, in a Liquid Glass look. On iPad too. CARPLAY • Start from search, a saved trip, a favorite, or by voice. Nearby sights show detour times; hear a place's story. • Add a Stop and Route Overview while you drive, plus a map on CarPlay Dashboard and supported instrument clusters. Feedback? Email support@wanderwayapp.com. Derek Drive attentively and follow traffic laws.
