Never misread a putt again. PuttView shows you exactly why you're missing. The average amateur golfer takes 40 putts per round, while PGA Tour players only take 29. This 11-stroke gap is the most recoverable gap in golf - and PuttView helps you close that efficiently. Instead of just rolling putts, start practice deliberately with immediate and accurate feedback on every putt. Using your iPhone's LiDAR sensor, PuttView scans any green and overlays precise, data-based visuals directly on the surface. Contour lines, slope arrows, the correct putting line, aiming point, and speed and distance data. All in real time. On any real green, indoors or outdoors. No guesswork. No estimation. Just the read. What PuttView shows you: Contour Lines See the exact topography of the green. Scan any surface, with or without a putt lined up. Understand how it breaks before you ever address the ball. Slope Arrows: Instant directional cues showing the fall line at every point on the green. The exact direction the ball would roll downhill. Read the green faster, more accurately. Ideal Line: Not just the optimal line. The correct line, calculated for perfect pace. See exactly where your ball needs to travel from the moment it leaves the putter face until it hits the bottom of the cup. Aiming Line & Aiming Point: A precisely defined start direction and target point. Eliminate alignment guesswork entirely. Putt Info: Speed, distance, and break data for every putt. Build a feel for pace and line grounded in real numbers. Built for golfers who take their game seriously. The PuttView app is not a simulator. It works on any green, outdoors, and indoors. The same technology trusted by tour professionals, elite coaches, and leading training facilities worldwide is now in your pocket. Scan. Read. Putt.
ShotTrail

Tap once when you're about to hit. ShotTrail takes the position and the time, works out how far the last shot went, and keeps score. Keep up to 10 rounds free. One purchase keeps every round — no subscription, nothing renews. EVERY SHOT WHERE YOU ACTUALLY HIT IT ShotTrail tracks in the background, so your position is already captured the moment you tap — no standing still waiting for a fix. Tap Arm the instant you hit and that exact spot is held, however long it takes you to walk up to it. Shot distance is measured, not estimated. A CADDIE THAT KNOWS YOUR OWN DISTANCES ShotTrail Caddie reads how far you hit each club from the rounds you've played, then gives you the distance to your next target and the club that matches — wind-adjusted, if you want it. It suggests; you decide. PAY ONCE Golf tracking normally means a subscription. This one doesn't. Keep 10 rounds free; one purchase keeps them all — and nothing you've recorded is ever locked, whether you buy or not. STATISTICS THAT NAME THE PROBLEM Not a wall of numbers. Greens, fairways, putting, scrambling, driving and penalties, each set against what's typical at your scoring level, ending in the one part of your game costing you the most strokes — and a drill for it. YOUR DATA STAYS ON YOUR PHONE No account, no sign-up, no analytics, no crash reporting, no third-party SDKs, and no server of ours. Two requests do leave the phone, and only when you ask for something: a coordinate and a date for the round's weather, and a coordinate and a radius when you search OpenStreetMap for a course. Logging shots, scoring and statistics need no network at all. YOUR COURSE, EVEN IF NOBODY HAS MAPPED IT Import from OpenStreetMap with par, stroke index and length filled in — or play a round on a course nobody has mapped and let ShotTrail work the holes out from your own shots. ON THE COURSE • Log Shot, Arm, Log Penalty, Pick Up, and provisional balls that resolve once you say whether you found the original • Course Guide — a tee-to-green map of each hole, every segment's distance, hole-up, with a live wind badge • Shot Plan — draggable landing markers from where you stand to the flag; tap one to aim your next shot at it • Apple Watch remote — Arm, Log Shot, the hole, the scorecard and the Caddie on your wrist, plus opt-in swing detection that arms the shot • Fix a hole while you're still on it: add a forgotten shot, move one, close it where you holed out AFTER THE ROUND • Your round drawn on satellite imagery, the walking dashed so it's never mistaken for a shot • Scorecard, weather, wind and sun position, stored with the round • Green Hit % (GIR), Fairway Hit %, putts per hole and per green hit, scrambling, sand saves, average and longest drive, penalties, score distribution • Min, average and maximum distance for every club, each shot behind it — saved into My Clubs, which is what the Caddie reads • The photos you took while playing, matched by time and place, captioned with the hole • A PDF round report in Files YOUR DATA • Backups to your own iCloud Drive, written automatically after every round • Metres or yards, km/h, m/s or mph, mixed however you like • Apple Health: every finished round filed as a Golf workout, off until you turn it on BEFORE YOU CHANGE PHONES Your rounds live on your phone. There is no account and no server, so they do not appear on a new phone by themselves — you carry them across by restoring your backup file. Check that a recent one is there before you trade the old phone in. The purchase moves separately, with your Apple Account. REQUIREMENTS iPhone running iOS 17.2 or later. The Apple Watch app needs watchOS 10 or later, and swing detection runs a workout all round; the iPhone app is complete on its own. ShotTrail asks for Always location so a position is in hand the moment you tap, phone still in your pocket; tracking starts with the round and stops with it. Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: ShotTrail at every 5 days against PuttView's fortnightly. On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
