Most breathing apps just play a timer. Respirix connects to your heart rate strap (optional) and shows whether your breathing is actually working in real time. Live HRV coherence feedback, a guided resonance frequency finder, and research-backed protocols. No subscription. No account. Just results. Works without a heart rate strap. GUIDED BREATHING MADE SIMPLE Choose from four research-backed breathing protocols or create your own custom pattern. Set your duration, hit start, and let the voice cues and visual pacer guide each breath. Put your phone down, close your eyes, and relax. BREATHING PROTOCOLS - Resonance (4.5s in, 5.5s out) - Maximize HRV amplitude at ~6 breaths per minute - Extended Exhale (4s in, 6s out) - Activate relaxation through prolonged exhalation - Slow Diaphragmatic (4s in, 2s hold, 5s out, 2s hold) - Stabilize your autonomic nervous system - HRV Biofeedback (4s in, 2s hold, 6s out, 2s hold) - Long-term autonomic retraining with live feedback - Custom - Configure your own protocols with inhale, hold, and exhale durations FEATURES - Visual breathing pacer that expands and contracts with your breath - Voice cues guide each phase. No need to watch the screen - Haptic feedback for phase transitions (or combine both) - Background audio keeps sessions running with screen locked - Daily reminder at your chosen time to keep your practice consistent - Configurable session duration (1-60 minutes) - Save sessions to Health as Mind & Body workouts and Mindful Minutes - Keep screen awake option FIND YOUR RATE Everyone has a breathing speed where their body relaxes most deeply. A guided assessment tests six different speeds, measures your heart rhythm at each one, and identifies your personal resonance frequency. Your optimal rate is then used automatically in future sessions. OPTIONAL HEART RATE & HRV (requires Bluetooth heart rate strap) - Live heart rate display during sessions - Real-time HRV coherence score with visual gauge - Adaptive breathing rate that adjusts to your coherence in real time - RMSSD tracking (heart rate variability metric) - Signal quality indicator - Session summary with HR, HRV, and heart rhythm metrics TRACK YOUR PROGRESS - Session history grouped by day - Trend charts for heart rhythm, heart rate, and HRV over time - Monthly progress comparison showing how your metrics improve - Current streak and weekly session counts No account required. No subscriptions. No ads. Works completely offline. Respirix is a wellness tool and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Tide

Tide is a breathing timer, built around your own rhythm. Build a pattern from scratch: set your own hold times, chain together repeatable step sets, and choose whether a session ends after a set number of rounds or after a fixed length of time. Once it's saved, it works exactly like any other pattern in the app. Not sure where to start? Three patterns are ready to go: Box breathing (4-4-4-4): used to reset under pressure. Equal parts inhale, hold, exhale, hold. 4-7-8: a technique for unwinding. A long exhale that signals to your nervous system that it's safe to slow down. Calm (3-2-5-2): a gentle everyday pattern. Slightly longer exhale than inhale, designed for quiet moments and transitions. Tide also runs on Apple Watch. Start a session from your wrist with quick-start presets and rounds mode. Chime and haptic settings sync automatically between your phone and watch. No narration. No scores. Just the rhythm you choose. Tide is made by Quiet Leaf LLC. Verdict
The clearest difference is price: Tide at Free against Respirix's $6.99. Respirix's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 2 months). On ads, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.
