Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Sakura Reader at 100% against Saturn's 50%. Sakura Reader also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). Saturn's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.5) and iOS requirement (18.6 vs 26.1). On price, ratings volume, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Saturn holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 4 and 4 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Sakura Reader's written reviews are positive against 50% of Saturn's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Sakura Reader ships an update every 4 days, Saturn every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
