Tenets

Most planning tools optimise for output. Tenets starts with your values โ and works backwards to what your year should actually look like. Tenets is a private, on-device life planning tool for people who want to live deliberately, not just productively. VALUES FIRST Before you plan a single goal, Tenets asks what your life stands for. Three reflective questions โ with on-device Apple Intelligence to suggest values if you want the help โ become the three to five principles everything else serves. Every domain you plan links back to a value, so your year is grounded in what matters, not just what's measurable. ANNUAL OKRS FOR YOUR LIFE Domains replace teams. Objectives stay ambitious. Key results stay honest. The framework that runs great organisations, applied to the one project that actually matters. A guided wizard proposes a full year structure in minutes โ you decide what stays. A WEEKLY PULSE Ninety seconds. Energy level, a theme, values alignment, a short note โ typed or dictated. The compound effect of staying honest with yourself, week by week. The dashboard tells you when a pulse is due; the widget keeps your progress on your desk. A MONTHLY REVIEW Rate each key result, then talk it through with the council โ four on-device AI personas (the Auditor, the Scientist, the Witness, the Philosopher) that read your actual data and ask the questions a good coach would. Every review becomes a written record you can revisit. A LONG VIEW Time Machine shows year-over-year trends, monthly activity heatmaps, and key result history โ the shape of your years, not just the last 30 days. IN SYNC, PRIVATELY Your plan follows you โ Mac, iPhone, iPad โ synced through your own private iCloud. No account with us, no server of ours, no analytics. All AI runs on-device with Apple Intelligence (macOS 26 / iOS 26; every feature has a full manual path without it). Works fully offline without iCloud, and your data is exportable as plain JSON at any time. BUILT FOR THE KEYBOARD โK jumps to any domain, objective, or key result. โ1โโ5 switch views. โN logs a pulse, โโงR starts a review, โZ undoes. Deliberate planning at the speed of thought. Now on Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

Nook is an RSS reader for people who would rather choose what they read. Add a feed, or paste a website and let Nook find the feed for you. Your subscriptions, what you have read, and what you have starred live on your device. There is no account to create, and nothing about your reading is sent anywhere. A READER THAT GETS OUT OF THE WAY Articles render natively, with real typography rather than a web page squeezed into a phone. Headings, quotes, code, tables, nested lists, images, and video all keep their structure. Set the font, size, line height, letter spacing, and colours, and switch any single feed to a full-page reader or the original site when its own layout is worth keeping. WORKS WITHOUT A NETWORK Nook is offline-first, not offline-capable. It launches, lists, and reads with no connection. Choose the articles to keep for later and decide when they expire. SYNC WITHOUT AN ACCOUNT Point Nook at a folder in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or anywhere else that syncs files, and your feeds, read state, stars, categories, and folders follow you between devices. The folder service moves the files; Nook merges them, per device, so two devices changed at once do not overwrite each other. No server of ours is involved, because there isn't one. TRANSLATION, ON YOUR TERMS Translate a full article or just the titles in a list. Apple Intelligence runs on the device and costs nothing. Gemini is opt-in and uses an API key you provide, kept in this device's Keychain and never placed in the sync folder. ORGANISE IT HOWEVER YOU THINK Folders for feeds, colour-coded categories for articles, keyword rules, and text filters that collect what you would rather not see instead of deleting it. Optionally let Apple Intelligence or Gemini sort new articles by subject. QUIET BY DEFAULT No advertising, no tracking, no analytics, and no engagement mechanics. Badges and new-article notifications start off, and Nook asks for permission only after you turn one on โ never at launch. PUBLISHING (BETA, INVITATION ONLY) Nook can also publish what you write. Articles are stored as records in an AT Protocol repository that belongs to you, and served as a web page with a real feed others can subscribe to. You can export every record and delete it at any time, including while publishing is suspended. This part of Nook is in beta and needs an invitation; everything above works without one.

Verdict
Tenets and Nook are too close to call on the numbers: across 5 compared parameters โ price, ads, in-app purchases and device support among them โ neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.
