Rehearse your lines. Record your self-tape. No reader needed. Import a PDF, mark your lines, and start rehearsing in seconds. IMPORT YOUR SIDES IN SECONDS Stop typing sides by hand. Import a PDF, pick your scene, tap your character, and you're ready to run lines. A READER THAT ACTUALLY HEARS YOU Scriptmate tracks your speech word-by-word through the entire line, not just the final word, whether you're off book or doing a cold read. Your reader responds the moment you finish your cue. CLEAN SELF-TAPE AUDIO Reader lines play only in your headphones: silence in the camera mic, reader in your ears. PROFESSIONAL DEFAULTS Landscape recording is enforced, so casting directors never see a vertical tape. Your own lines are hidden while recording, so you stay present instead of reading. FOCUS MODE Scriptmate blocks distracting apps the moment you start rehearsing and lifts the block when you stop. HOW IT WORKS 1.Import your script. PDF in, parsed scene out. 2.Tap your character. Your lines are marked automatically. 3.Rehearse, memorize, get off book, then record your tape. TRY IT FREE Run a full demo scene the moment you open the app. No account, no sign-up. Getting off book is the hardest part of the job. It usually happens in the living room: your script in one hand, the other covering your lines. That's how I memorized for years, and it never came easily. I would read the other lines and recite mine, never really listening. The words didn't stick because I wasn't thinking the thoughts. With Line Run, you hear the scene instead of reading it. It speaks the line before yours and listens while you respond, so you hear your cue and think your way into the reply. You're thinking the thoughts and connecting the dots, and this time the words stick. RECORD IT, OR IMPORT IT Record the other characters yourself, once. It's the more lifelike way: your own pacing, your own pauses, each part pitched up or down so they sound like different people. Or let Line Run Pro do the work. Import your script and every other part gets a natural-sounding voice, made right on your phone. One is more lifelike, the other is less effort. Either way, it sounds like a cast running the scene with you. BUILT FOR ACTORS, BY AN ACTOR Hi, I'm Kelly. I've been in this industry for over 25 years, and memorizing is still a challenge. I built Line Run so that we can get off book sooner, with confidence, and rehearsal can be about the acting. SIMPLE TO START, DEEP WHEN YOU WANT IT If you can press play, you can use Line Run. Open a scene and start talking. If you go blank, say "Line, please" and it prompts you. When you want more, it's all there: loop a tricky section, fine-tune the line text, mark it up with notes about motivation, hide the lines to suit your learning style. PRIVATE BY DESIGN There is no account and nothing to sign up for. There are no ads and your data will never be sold to anyone. Your recordings stay on your phone, and the generated voices are made there too, not in a data centre. FREE FOREVER Line Run is free forever, and it's a complete tool, not a trial. It has everything you need for an audition or a less demanding role: one script of up to three scenes, recorded in your own voice, with every way to rehearse. LINE RUN PRO Unlock everything in the app: • Import your scripts, even scanned pages or sides • Natural-sounding voices for every other character, generated automatically • Unlimited scripts and scenes I know how tough it is out there for actors to make ends meet, so I've priced this low to cover costs, not to profit. An annual subscription, with a free trial to start. Cancel anytime. Generated voices need a one-time download of about 330 MB. On iPhone 11 and earlier, and the 2nd-generation iPhone SE, Line Run uses the phone's built-in voices instead. Questions or ideas? Write to me at hello@linerunapp.com. Proudly made in Canada. Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Line Run at 5.0 against Scriptmate's 4.2. Line Run also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 80%) and update cadence (daily vs every 4 days). Scriptmate's advantage is ratings volume (12 vs 1) and iOS requirement (16 vs 18.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Scriptmate sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and Line Run sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $39.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Line Run holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Scriptmate has 12 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 80% of Scriptmate's written reviews are positive against 100% of Line Run's.
Scriptmate ships an update every 4 days, Line Run daily. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
