KickMint

Task initiation for ADHD, AuDHD, and late-diagnosed neurodivergent adults. The shame-free ADHD task starter that breaks any task into the first physical step. On-device AI. No cloud. No account. Built for executive function, time blindness, and the moment when "just start" stops working. KickMint is built for adults with ADHD and AuDHD (ADHD plus autism), for late-diagnosed and RSD-aware adults, and for anyone whose brain knows exactly what to do and still cannot begin. It does not try to make you more organized. It tries to make the next step possible. WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT Most productivity apps assume the bottleneck is planning. For ADHD and AuDHD, the bottleneck is the gap between "I should" and the first physical action. KickMint is designed end to end around that gap. Pick One. Instead of a list of fifteen tasks, the Focus tab shows you one. The one your brain is most likely to actually start, given your energy, the time you have, and what you have done today. Break it down in seconds. Tap Break it down on any task. You get three to five steps that each start with a physical action you can do without thinking. "Open the laptop." "Get the form from the drawer." Not "start the report." Implementation intentions (specific if-then plans) raise follow-through across 94 studies (Gollwitzer & Sheeran, 2006). Stuck help. One tap and KickMint gives you a five-step recovery that caps each step at five minutes. Tiny, physical, finishable. Designed for the moment when "just start" stops working. Time anchors. ADHD time blindness is real and measured (Barkley, 2012; Weissenberger et al., 2021). KickMint shows you a single line that grounds where you are in the day: morning, midday, evening. No buzzing reminders. Just a quiet marker. Breathing room. The breathing space button runs four cycles of 4-7-8 breathing with a visible round counter, matching Dr Andrew Weil's beginner protocol. Slow paced breathing produces a measurable parasympathetic shift in three to four cycles (Aktas et al., 2019). YOUR PHONE, YOUR DATA The AI runs on your phone. A small open-weight model (Qwen 2.5 1.5B) downloads once over WiFi, about 990 MB, and from then on every task breakdown, Pick One suggestion, and Stuck recovery is computed locally. Nothing is sent to us. We never see your tasks. There is no account. Your data never leaves the phone. There is no account, no server, and no sync service, so there is nothing of yours on our side to lose or leak. Moving to a new iPhone works through your encrypted iPhone backup: restore the new device and your tasks are already there. WHAT IS IN PRO Free covers the daily loop end to end: capture, single-task focus, breakdown templates, Pick One that respects your medication window and cycle, Stuck help, breathing space, routine markers, Waiting Mode, and a weekly summary. Every Pro feature is free for 30 days on first use, no card. Pro unlocks on-device AI task breakdown, sized to your cycle phase and adapted to your own patterns, AI re-break when a step is too big, the full soundscape library, sound calibration, and detailed weekly insights. Monthly, annual, or one-time Lifetime, pricing shown in app. BUILT FOR ADHD AND AUDHD ADULTS The app explicitly supports neurodivergent overlays the rest of the category ignores: PDA-aware tone, sensory-overload Stealth mode, novelty rotation, overcommitment detection, time estimation training, and waiting-mode relief when you have a calendar window too small to start the real work. We are honest: KickMint is a productivity tool, not a medical device, not therapy, not a replacement for an ADHD or autism diagnosis. It is what we wished existed when nothing else fit. The medical disclaimer lives in Settings and at kick-mint.com/medical-disclaimer. For the full bibliography of studies behind each feature, see kick-mint.com/science. The hardest part of cleaning is not knowing how. It's starting. Somehow tells you one thing to do. When that's done, it tells you the next one. You never have to look at a messy room and decide where to begin. HOW IT WORKS Pick a room. Somehow shows you a single task, with the steps if you want them. Do it, or skip it — no question asked either way. Three things out of seven is three things done. Tell it how long you have and it gives you a list that fits. Ten minutes, thirty, or whatever's due. WHAT IT NEVER DOES No streaks to break. No red badges. Nothing is ever "overdue" — it will tell you a room was last cleaned twelve days ago, because that's information, but it will never tell you that you're behind. Skip anything, any time, one tap, no follow-up question. Come back after three months and it picks up where you left off without a word about the gap. YOUR PHOTOS NEVER LEAVE YOUR PHONE Photos of a room stay inside the app. Not your camera roll, not a server. There is no account and no server at all — Somehow works in airplane mode, because everything it does happens on your phone. FREE All of it. No subscription, no trial, nothing locked. There's a tip jar in Settings if you want it, and it buys nothing.

Verdict
KickMint and Somehow are too close to call on the numbers: across 5 compared parameters — price, ads, in-app purchases and device support among them — neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. KickMint sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $8.99 per month and Somehow sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
