Simple Angelus
Read full descriptionHide full description
Simple Angelus is a faithful digital companion for the traditional Catholic devotion of the Angelus. It rings the bell at the three canonical hours — morning, noon, and evening — and presents the prayers of the Church simply and beautifully. The app follows the pre-1955 traditional Roman calendar. The Regina Caeli replaces the Angelus from Easter Sunday through the Saturday before Trinity Sunday, as the Church has always done. Prayer postures observe Benedict XIV's 1742 decree: kneeling on weekdays, standing during Paschaltide and on Sundays. Prayers are offered in English, Spanish, French, and the Latin of the Roman Missal. Notifications include excerpts from the Alma Redemptoris Mater or the Regina Caeli — automatically swapped according to the season — at gentle volume. Simple Angelus asks nothing of you except that you pause and pray. It contains no advertisements, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no donation prompts, and no accounts. It collects no data. It is offered freely as a service to the Church. "The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary, and she conceived of the Holy Ghost…"

Suscipe is a Catholic devotional companion rooted in the Ignatian tradition. The prayer that gives the app its name — Suscipe, Domine, universam meam libertatem — sits at its heart. THE DAILY EXAMEN Pray Saint Ignatius's five-step Examen of Consciousness in the morning to direct the day, and again in the evening to read it. Each step opens with a prompt and an invitation — Latin alongside English on every step. Close the morning Examen with the Suscipe; close the evening with the Pater Noster or, if you prefer, the Anima Christi. THE THIRTY-DAY SPIRITUAL EXERCISES The full Ignatian retreat in its traditional structure, beginning with the Principle and Foundation and walking through the Four Weeks: Sin and Mercy, the Public Life of Christ, the Passion, and the Resurrection. Each day opens with a hub — foundation quote, today's structure, opening CTA — and a six-step flow: preparatory prayer, composition of place, petition for grace, meditation points, colloquy, and the Pater Noster. THE PRAYER LIBRARY Thirteen central Catholic prayers in their canonical Latin and traditional English: Suscipe, Anima Christi, Prayer for Generosity, Pater Noster, Ave Maria, Gloria Patri, Memorare, Veni Creator Spiritus, Salve Regina, Angelus, Te Deum, Magnificat, and the Act of Contrition. Each carries an authorship note, a source citation, and where helpful a note on the language tradition. DAILY PRAYER + DAILY QUOTE A different Catholic prayer for every day of the year, paired with a Scripture verse or saint-quote arranged to the liturgical calendar. ABOUT ST. IGNATIUS A reverent biography in seven sections — the soldier of Loyola, his conversion, Montserrat and Manresa, Paris, the first companions, the founding of the Society of Jesus, his death and canonization — with a Spiritual Legacy section, the Sacred Places of his life (Loyola, Montserrat, Manresa, Paris, La Storta, Rome), and his sayings. LITURGICAL LIGHT Suscipe's chrome breathes through the day. A warm Marian Dawn palette in the morning — golden-red, deep brick, peach horizon, rising-sun gold — crossfading at noon and 4:30 AM into the deep Pilgrim Sunset of the evening: terracotta, burnt clay, dark earth, gold ember. THE UNLOCK Every prayer, every quote, every page of the Spiritual Exercises is free, and that is not changing. The personal practice tools — the Tracker (anchor and supplemental practice tracking, with streaks, perfect days, monthly grid, and year heatmap), the Journal (with reflective prompts and PDF export), and the Colloquy Timer (3, 5, or 10 minutes of paced contemplation with a soft chime) — are available through the unlock at $0.99 a month or $9.99 a year, both with a seven-day free trial. PRIVACY Your prayer history, journal entries, retreat day completions, and Examen reflections live on your device. If iCloud is enabled, they sync through Apple's end-to-end encrypted iCloud backup. No analytics, no third-party trackers, no servers we run. A NOTE ON THE TEXTS The Catholic prayers in Suscipe come down to us in Latin from the Roman Missal, the Vulgate, and the Raccolta. The English is Edward Caswall's nineteenth-century translation paired with the traditional forms. Scripture is from the Douay-Rheims. St. Ignatius wrote his Spiritual Exercises in Spanish — El Rey Eterno, Principio y Fundamento are his own words, not Latin translations. The app preserves these distinctions because language is part of what the prayer is. THE STUDIO Suscipe is part of the Sanctified Souls collective — a small Catholic studio making devotional tools for the faithful. Sister apps: Sanctified Souls, St. Bridget Prayers, The Little Way, and Via Virtutum. Privacy Policy:: https://www.sanctifiedsouls.net/privacy Terms of Service:: https://www.sanctifiedsouls.net/terms
