Aptly
Read full descriptionHide full description
Practice for aptitude and psychometric tests with questions you can trust. Aptly covers numerical, verbal, logical, abstract, spatial, mechanical and diagrammatic reasoning, data interpretation and situational judgment, and every question comes with a step-by-step explanation and a time-saving shortcut. Timed mock tests, weak-area analytics and a daily habit that work offline, with no account. EVERY ANSWER EXPLAINED Each question has a worked solution in numbered steps that shows the method, not just the answer, plus a shortcut for doing it faster under time pressure and a formula card where one helps. Pick a wrong option and you see why, plus the common trap and a note on every option. Every question in the bank has been solved independently and checked against its answer key. If anything still looks wrong to you, report it straight from the question. Add your own note to any question and it shows under the explanation from then on, and in Saved. TIMED MOCK TESTS THAT FEEL LIKE THE REAL THING Choose an exam-style preset (Graduate ยท CCAT-style, SHL-style, ASVAB / ADF-style military, Bank / Placement or Civil Service-style) or build your own with the sections, question count, time limit and negative marking you want. After every mock you get your score, an estimated percentile, a section-by-section breakdown and a full review with explanations. Then retry only the questions you missed. PRACTICE THAT FINDS YOUR WEAK SPOTS Untimed practice with instant feedback, by category and sub-topic. Questions new to you come first, then the ones you got wrong, and each run ends with your accuracy and pace, a sub-topic breakdown when it mixes topics, and a one-tap retry of the ones you missed. Spaced review brings every question you miss back after 1, 3 and 7 days, and Review now on Home runs the ones that are due. Over time, accuracy by category (tap one to see every sub-topic), your pace per question, your mock score trend, a weak-area heatmap and mastery badges show where to focus, and "See weak areas" on the Home screen opens your progress, where a card names your weakest sub-topic and starts a run on it. Mistakes are collected automatically, "Retry my mistakes" turns them into a practice run, and you can bookmark any question to come back to. The Practice tab's Your review strip keeps what is due, your mistakes, saved questions and notes together. A DAILY HABIT BEFORE TEST DAY A fresh Daily Challenge of 10 mixed questions and a streak, today's goal on Home, an optional reminder, a countdown to your test date and a readiness score that climbs as you improve. PRIVATE AND OFFLINE No account, no sign-up and no internet needed to practice. Your progress stays on your device. Ads never interrupt a question or a timed test; a hint video plays only if you choose to watch one. EVERYTHING INCLUDED, WITH AN OPTIONAL UPGRADE All 322 questions, every mock test, every explanation and all the analytics are open to everyone. Ads support the app. Aptly Pro is a one-time purchase that removes ads and the daily hint limit. It does not add or unlock questions, because nothing is locked. GOOD TO KNOW - 322 original questions in 64 sub-topics, plus 46 formula and tips cards - Abstract, spatial and chart questions are set out in words and tables, not drawn as pictures - Hints reveal the shortcut before you answer - An on-screen calculator for numerical questions, optional negative marking, light and dark themes - Useful practice for cognitive ability tests such as the CCAT and Wonderlic - Interface in 16 languages; questions and explanations in English Aptly is not affiliated with or endorsed by SHL, Criteria Corp (CCAT), Wonderlic, the US Department of Defense (ASVAB), the Australian Defence Force or any other test provider. Its questions are original, written in the formats these tests use.
Cortexa

Cortexa is an IQ-style reasoning test that tells you the truth about your score. Most tests in this category show you a number, then charge you to find out what you got wrong. Cortexa does the opposite. The test is free, the score is free, and the full worked explanation for every single question is free โ because an explanation you cannot read is the only part of a reasoning test worth having. Six kinds of thinking, scored separately Pattern recognition, numerical, verbal, logical, spatial and abstract reasoning. You get a score for each one, so you can see the shape of how you think rather than a single flat number. The score shows its working Cortexa does not count correct answers. Every question carries a difficulty rating, and your score is estimated from which questions you got right, not how many. A hard item you solved counts for more than an easy one you didn't. You are also shown a likely range, not just a point score, because a 25-question test cannot pin a number down exactly and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. Tap the range to read exactly how the scoring works. Every question explained, none of it paywalled When you finish, go through the whole test. See what you picked, what the answer was, and why. Filter to just the ones you missed. No paywall on any of it. The figures are drawn, not photographed The pattern, spatial and abstract questions are drawn as real figures โ matrices, rotations, reflections, sequences and missing pieces โ not photographs of a worksheet. They are sharp at any size, readable in dark mode, and every one of them is also described in words โ so the visual half of the test can be answered with VoiceOver instead of skipped. One question a day, that cannot move your score One question a day, the same one for everyone, with the explanation straight after. It deliberately does not affect your score โ a streak that could move your number would turn the score into a measure of attendance. A retake is a real retake Every retake draws a fresh set of questions and avoids what you have recently seen, so a second attempt is a real second attempt. No account, and no server to have one on No account. No email. No sign-up of any kind. There is no networking code in the app at all, so nothing is uploaded and there is no server to upload it to. Your results are stored on your phone. The only thing that ever leaves it is a share card you choose to send yourself. It works completely offline. What this is, and what it is not Cortexa is a well-built reasoning puzzle set for self-assessment and entertainment. It is not a clinical or professionally administered IQ assessment, it has not been standardised on a representative sample, and it is not a diagnosis of anything. It does not claim a percentile, because the app has no reference population that would make one meaningful. If a number matters to you, what matters more is what it is built from. Tap the range on your result and the app will tell you, in full.

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Cortexa at none against Aptly's 1. Aptly's advantage is device support (3 vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18.0). On price and ads there is nothing between them.
