People capitalize tech companies with their online activity. We at User Cooperative believe it’s time for a tech company to return all its value to its users in proportion to their use, and that’s what we do. User Cooperative is a 100% user-owned and -governed tech company, and by extension, all tech we build belongs to our users. We therefore consider ourselves the people’s tech company. Our mission is as bold as we are unique, and that’s to put all meaningful tech power and profits into the people’s hands. We start with Surge, a web browser. State-of-the-art in its design. Revolutionary in how it counts your activity so we can share our profits with you. When you create an account on Surge, you become a User Cooperative owner. While you're signed in, Surge counts the sites you visit, which you can see in-browser, and that count is how we share our profits with you. Indeed, each click builds your equity in User Cooperative, and the value of your browsing activity flows back to you as patronage dividends, the way cooperatives have shared their profits for centuries. Not interested in equity for your clicks? You can browse without signing in or go incognito, and Surge won’t count your activity. SURGE HIGHLIGHTS - Equity page to view your stake in User Cooperative - Import tool so you can bring your data from Safari and Chrome and get equity for it - Search engine selector so you can ditch the default - Tab switcher for easy toggling; tabs and their history survive restart - Autofill for your passwords, addresses, and IDs that only live on your device and are secured by Face ID - Bookmarks and Reading List - On-device page translation and voice search - No analytics and no third-party trackers in the app - Delete your browsing data or your whole account at any time right in the app - Incognito mode - Dark mode
Jazz Private Browser
Read full descriptionHide full description
Jazz Browser is a web browser for iPhone and iPad, built on Apple's WebKit engine. It blocks trackers, keeps separate sets of logins in named containers, and has a VPN you can switch on from a tab inside the browser. It is completely free: no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, no paid tier, no trial, no ads. BROWSING - Tabs, a tab grid, private tabs, pinned tabs and a list of recently closed tabs - Bookmarks, history, shortcuts on the start page, find on page - Reader mode for long articles - Page translation that runs on the device with Apple's built-in translator, so the page text never leaves your iPhone or iPad - Picture in picture, and audio that keeps playing in the background with lock screen controls - Downloads saved into the Files app, a choice of search engine including custom ones, light and dark themes CONTAINERS Named containers such as Work, Personal and Shopping each keep their own cookies and logins, so the same site can be two independent sessions at once. Unlike a private tab, a container remembers the sign-in. It is about separation, not forgetting. BLOCKING - Built-in content blocking rules, plus filter list subscriptions in Adblock Plus format (EasyList, EasyPrivacy, Peter Lowe's list) converted to WebKit content rules - Link cleaning strips tracking parameters such as utm_source and fbclid from the links you follow, so a link you forward no longer carries a marker pointing back to you - Page report: how many resources the page loaded, which third-party domains it contacted, which of those are known trackers, and whether the page and everything on it arrived over HTTPS - Leak protection: three WebKit subsystems (DNS prefetch, WebAuthn, WebTransport) can reach the network around the proxy and expose your real address. The browser can shut them down for one site or everywhere. PER-SITE SETTINGS JavaScript, images, autoplay, desktop layout and text zoom are kept per domain and survive a restart. LOCK AND CLEAN-UP - Lock the browser with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode; it locks as soon as you leave the app - Clear history, cookies and site data when you exit, with control over what gets cleared VPN The VPN is off until you tap connect. It is built on Apple's Network Extension framework, covers the whole device, and keeps working when the browser is closed. - Pick a server location - Split tunneling: decide what goes through the tunnel and what goes direct - Before the VPN can be turned on, a screen explains exactly what data is processed FREE Jazz Browser is free. There is nothing to buy inside it, no subscription, no paid tier, no trial, and no advertising. PRIVACY We keep no traffic logs. We do not record, analyse or store the contents of your connections, and we do not sell, share or disclose user data to third parties. A VPN changes the address a site sees; it does not make you anonymous to a site you have signed in to.
