The total solar eclipse of August 12, 2026, town by town: your exact times, and whether it truly goes dark where you'll be. 9,255 towns across Spain, Portugal, Iceland, the UK, Ireland and four more countries, all calculated inside your phone, with no signal. WHAT IT TELLS YOU, IN THREE SECONDS Β· Whether it goes dark where you are, or only dims. No hedging. Β· First contact, maximum and end, in local time. Β· How many seconds totality lasts, if there is any. Β· How much of the Sun is covered, and how high it will be. DO I NEED TO TRAVEL? HOW FAR? Late in the day, with the Sun low, the Moon's shadow crosses mainland Spain and the Balearics, and half the country is left out. Destinations are ranked by what you gain, not by how close they are. The nearest town with totality usually buys you 12 seconds, which is nothing. From Madrid, El Molar is 28 km away and gets 61. From Seville, the nearest 60 seconds is 422 km away, and the app tells you not to go. STAYING IN MADRID OR BARCELONA? Madrid reaches 99.9%, Barcelona 99.8%, Seville and MΓ‘laga 94.7%. It does not go dark there, the corona never appears, and you must not look without a certified filter at any point. The gap between 99.9% and 100% is not 0.1%: it is seeing it or not seeing it. Half of Spain is in that position: 4,065 of its 8,131 towns get only a partial, a median of 99.3% of the Sun covered. And 99.3% is not "almost totality". It is a different thing. NOT IN SPAIN? Iceland, Ireland, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Portugal and Morocco are in the app too, town by town: total or partial, local time, coverage and Sun height. THE SUN WILL BE VERY LOW. CHOOSE YOUR SPOT A median of 7.1Β° above the horizon, and under 10Β° in 7,638 of Spain's 8,131 towns. At that height a three-story building 80 meters away hides the Sun completely. The app gives you that height in degrees for your town, to check against your own horizon with your own eyes. And something almost nobody mentions: in 6,494 towns the eclipse never ends, the Sun sets first. GLASSES AND SAFETY Never look at the Sun without a certified filter. The prompt to take it off appears only where there is totality and only while it lasts long enough to be real. Everywhere else the app says what has to be said: the filter does not come off at any point. THE CAMERA Photos come stamped with your town, the exact time and the percentage of the Sun covered. Video is recorded clean, and to share it the app makes the video card: one frame of your clip with the stamp already on it, instantly. Plus an automatic shutter for the minutes that matter, so you are not staring at a screen when you should be looking up. The filter warning stays in front, always. WHAT USES THE INTERNET, AND WHAT DOES NOT The eclipse does not. Times, map and all 9,255 towns are computed on the device, so a crowded hilltop with a jammed network changes nothing. One single thing needs a connection, and only if you open it: the cloud report, where people tap to say what is overhead and you see what the towns around you report. Nothing else leaves the phone. Your location, if you give it, stays on the device: only the town name is kept, and you can type it by hand. WHAT IS FREE, WHAT IS PAID Free: the times, the duration, the percentage, total or partial here, the filter warnings, the search, the widgets and the camera with its stamp. Pro is a one-time purchase, no subscription: three develop presets made for eclipse light, your totality photos in a single strip, and the option to remove the stamp. FIND YOUR TOWN With its province next to it, because 17 names repeat. And under the names people actually use: type Ibiza, Gerona or San SebastiΓ‘n and you get Eivissa, Girona and Donostia. Will you actually see totality from where you will be standing? Most eclipse apps answer that with a computed guess. This one answers it with the data. Inside Spain, Eclipse publishes the verdict from the Instituto Geografico Nacional for every municipality. That matters more than it sounds. A textbook calculation puts Madrid just inside the path of totality. The IGN puts it outside, at 99.90 percent. An app that says otherwise gets proven wrong in public, on the day. THREE ECLIPSES, ONE APP 2 August 2027 is the big one: totality runs from southern Spain across Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, where Luxor gets 6 minutes 23 seconds, the longest over land in decades. 26 January 2028 is an annular eclipse, the ring of fire, and it crosses Spain at sunset with the Sun only a few degrees above the horizon. Both are already in the app. It moves to the next one on its own, with no update needed. WHAT YOU GET - A straight answer for your exact place. Total, annular, partial, or right on the limit. When your spot sits on the edge, the app says so instead of guessing, and names the nearest town that is safely inside. - Every contact time to the second, in the local time of the place you asked about. - Which way to look. A live compass points you at the right patch of sky, with the Sun's exact height above the horizon so you can check today that no building or ridge is in the way. - Times clipped to sunset. Where an eclipse ends below the horizon, showing a time you cannot observe is worse than showing nothing. - Cloud cover for your spot, from Apple Weather, so you know whether to drive. - Alerts before each phase, scheduled on your device. - The full path map, with the centre line and both limits. WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL Everything except the cloud forecast runs entirely on your device. No account, no server, no connection. On eclipse day, when everyone opens their eclipse app in the same few minutes, that is the difference between an answer and a spinning wheel. NOTHING IS COLLECTED No tracking, no analytics, no account. Your location never leaves your phone. The only network request is Apple's own weather service. SAFETY FIRST Never look at the Sun without certified ISO 12312-2 filters. An annular eclipse has no safe moment at all: even a perfect ring is direct sunlight. The app says so, and never tells you to remove your glasses unless you are genuinely inside totality. Data: Instituto Geografico Nacional (CNIG), NASA/Fred Espenak, GeoNames.
