The last sun has gone out. What is left of the light is a single burning thread, and it is held between your two fingers. You do not control a character. You control the rope. Both ends of the thread are your fingertips, and its total length never changes โ€” so the distance between your fingers is the only input the game has. Bring them together and the thread sags into a basket: cold, dim, and able to cradle a falling ember and carry it across the room. Spread them apart and it snaps taut: hot enough to light a lantern, hot enough to burn through the gloom, and expensive enough to kill you. Because fuel is both your health and your light. Every second you burn bright is a second closer to the dark, so the room you can see is the room that is killing you. Lift one finger and that end pins itself in place, leaving the other free to sweep โ€” one of several tactics the game never tells you about. WHAT YOU DO ยท Light the lanterns before the gloom snuffs them out ยท Cradle embers in the slack and ferry them to the brazier ยท Pull taut and sear the gloom before it eats your fuel ยท Find the oil pods, because nothing else will refill you NOTHING ELSE PLAYS LIKE THIS The taut blade and the slack basket are not two modes with a button between them. They are the same rope, and the only difference is how far apart your hands are. Nothing snaps to anything either: embers are loose particles that roll and settle wherever the rope happens to sag, so every catch is a placement problem rather than a timing test. Nothing in here is trying to sell you light. There is no advertising to sit through and nothing to buy โ€” the thread you are handed at the start is the whole game, and no purchase will lengthen it by an inch. WICK asks for no account and no sign-in; your longest run is written down on your device and nowhere else, because the game simply carries no code with which to reach a network, so there is nothing to track you and nothing to report you. Every texture is drawn from scratch each time you launch and every sound is synthesised in the instant it is heard, which leaves the whole thing a couple of megabytes wide and perfectly content in a place with no signal at all. Two fingers. One thread. However far you get before the dark takes it back.

Zigg

Tap. Turn. Don't fall. Zigg is a one-tap arcade runner built on a single idea: a ball rolling down an endless zigzag path that crumbles the moment you leave it. Tap anywhere to switch direction. Miss the turn and the run is over. WHAT A RUN LOOKS LIKE - One tap, one finger, no tutorial. You understand it in two seconds. - The path falls away behind you, so there is never a way back. - Speed climbs with your score until every tap is pure reflex. - Gems sit on the path, and grabbing them is exactly what gets you killed. - The sky changes every 25 points: six palettes, shuffled fresh every run. CLIMB THE LEADERBOARD Every personal best gets a rank. Take a nickname, pick one of twenty faces, and see exactly where you land - on the podium, or 6th of 1,227. Set a record with no signal and it posts itself the moment you are back online. EIGHTEEN BALLS TO UNLOCK Spend the gems you collect in the shop. Tennis, Football, Basketball, Beach Ball, Checker, Eight Ball, Retro, Court, Gold with its sparkle trail, Vortex, Silver, Toxic, Gas Giant, Frost, and Ember, which burns a flame trail down the path behind you. BUILT TO RESPECT YOU - No ads. Not one, not ever. - No in-app purchases. Every ball is earned by playing. - Plays offline. Only the leaderboard wants a connection, and it waits for one. - No account and no sign-up. A nickname, and only if you want to be ranked. - Portrait, one hand, ten-second bursts. Your high score is the first opponent. Everybody else is the second.
