G'day Bird
Read full descriptionHide full description
Every morning at eight, a new Australian bird: a proper photo, its real call, a short note on what makes it worth knowing, and a map of where it's been seen. Swipe through the rest in Discover and keep the ones you love. Likes are rationed, a handful a day, so a collection means something. Run out and you can earn more by naming a call, or by doing the call yourself and letting the app judge your impression. Today's bird lives on your home screen widget and, on iPhones with a Dynamic Island, visits as a little pixel sprite each morning. Tap it to hear the call without opening the app. Birds, photos and recordings arrive on their own; the app keeps growing without updates. Photographs and calls are used under open licences, with the photographer and recordist credited on every card. No account, no ads, no tracking.

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: School Stream at none against G'day Bird's 6. School Stream also leads on device support (3 vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.5 vs 18.0). G'day Bird's advantage is update cadence (every 10 days vs every 5 weeks). On price and ads there is nothing between them.
