About

Every morning at eight, a new Australian bird: a proper photo, its real call, a short note on what makes it worth knowing, and a map of where it's been seen. Swipe through the rest in Discover and keep the ones you love. Likes are rationed, a handful a day, so a collection means something. Run out and you can earn more by naming a call, or by doing the call yourself and letting the app judge your impression. Today's bird lives on your home screen widget and, on iPhones with a Dynamic Island, visits as a little pixel sprite each morning. Tap it to hear the call without opening the app. Birds, photos and recordings arrive on their own; the app keeps growing without updates. Photographs and calls are used under open licences, with the photographer and recordist credited on every card. No account, no ads, no tracking.

What's New in G'day Bird

1.2

October 10, 2026

G'day Bird 1.2 brings bird decks. • Settings › Bird Decks › More decks: add a deck with a tap. The first is Birds of the NT: the five birds found only in the Territory, and the Top End and Red Centre company they keep. • Discover now holds the whole deck instead of a handful a day, and its heading switches between your decks. Likes are the only limit. • At the end of a deck, meet the birds in another, or give the ones you let go a second look. • The Collection sorts your birds by deck. • A few birds in the new decks haven't been recorded under a licence we can share. Their cards say so, and the call will turn up when we have one.
