About

BabelTable

Features

BabelTable helps two people speak across a language barrier, right across the table. Speech recognition and translation run on your device using Apple’s Speech and Translation frameworks. SPEAK FACE TO FACE Place your iPhone or iPad between you. The opposite-facing panels let each person read from their side of the table. Prefer sitting together? Switch to the chat layout for a shared conversation view. PREPARE ONCE, TRANSLATE OFFLINE Download the speech and translation models for your chosen languages while connected to the internet. Once prepared, supported language pairs work offline. No OpenAI account, API key, or cloud translation service is required. TAKE TURNS NATURALLY Select the language of the person speaking, then talk. Read the original captions and the translated text. Switch the speaking language when it is the other person’s turn. KEEP YOUR CONVERSATIONS Review saved conversations in History and share a text transcript when you choose. Conversation archives are stored locally on your device. REQUIREMENTS Requires iOS 27 or later and a device and language pair supported by Apple’s on-device speech recognition and translation. Initial model preparation requires an internet connection and available storage. Language availability varies. Speakers take turns and select their language; overlapping speech is not separated. Translations are displayed as text.
