A snail is coming for you. It hatched near you and it already knows where you are. It moves in a straight line, through buildings, through rivers, through anything in the way. It does not sleep and it never loses you. Walking is the only thing that holds it back. HOW IT WORKS The snail crawls toward your real location, day and night, whether the app is open or not. It starts at about two miles a day and gets faster every three days you survive. Every step you take pushes it back. Snail reads the step count your iPhone already records, so it does not matter where you walk or how fast. A walk to the mailbox counts. A shift on your feet counts. Most of each walk pushes the snail away, and the rest is banked for later. Driving away does not help. Only steps buy distance, and heading toward it is a very bad idea. If it reaches you, the game is over. Days survived is your score. A new snail hatches at 6am. WHAT YOU CAN SEE Far away, you only get a rough idea of where it is. The closer it gets, the more precisely you know. Inside a thousand feet, you see exactly where it is. SALT AND SHELL Salt freezes the snail for six hours. You start with one and earn another every week you survive. Shell pushes it back three miles. It costs five banked miles. IT TELLS YOU WHEN IT IS CLOSE A notification at one mile, at half a mile, and when it is on your street. A word in the morning and in the evening on how the day is going. PRIVACY No account, no sign up, no email address. No ads, no trackers, no purchases. Snail reads your step count from Apple Health and writes nothing back. Your location is used to play the game. Nothing is sold and nothing is shared. BATTERY Snail uses your location in the background, because the snail does not stop when you close the app. While it is far away, Snail checks your position rarely. It only checks often when the snail is close.

How Far turns the steps you already take into a season-long competition. Your phone's step counter measures how far you walk each day. Every 500 metres earns your first level of the day, and each next level needs double the distance: 1 km, 2 km, 4 km and beyond. Levels add up for the whole season, and every three months the leaderboard starts fresh so newcomers always have a real shot. WALK • Distance, steps and estimated calories for today, plus the previous days at a swipe • Weekly and monthly history for every metric • Works entirely from the motion sensor: no GPS, no location permission, no battery drain COMPETE • A seasonal leaderboard of everyone on How Far • Private groups: invite friends by name and compete on your own board • Your rank, level and distance at a glance COLLECT • Gemstones for lifetime milestones: Amethyst at 50 km, Citrine at 100 km, Aquamarine at 250 km, Sapphire at 500 km, all the way to Diamond at 5,000 km • A unique seasonal gemstone for finishing a season strong • Level-up notifications the moment you cross a breakpoint PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Sign in with Apple, Google or email • Other players see only your display name, activity totals, level, gemstones and join date; never your email • No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and you can delete your account and all its data from Settings at any time Lace up, open How Far, and see how far you can go this season.
