Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Chess at 4.9 against Brain points's 4.0. Chess also leads on update cadence (every 4 weeks vs every 19 months) and ratings volume (6.7K vs 48). Brain points's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 14) and review sentiment (67% vs 46%). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chess sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days. Brain points asks for nothing beyond the download.
Chess holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess has 6.7K ratings behind it against 48, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Brain points's written reviews are positive against 46% of Chess's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Brain points ships an update every 19 months, Chess every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
