MyGels vs Bio
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
MyGels
This app assists researchers in analyzing protein and DNA gels, such as SDS-PAGE and western blots. It automatically recognizes lanes and bands from gel images, allowing for calibration, quantification, and export of annotated results for further analysis.
- Automatic lane and band recognition
- Gel calibration for molecular weight
- Band quantification
- Export annotated gels and data
- Organize and track experimental results

MyGels turns a photo of your gel into quantitative results. Annotate, analyse and organise protein and DNA gels and blots, including SDS-PAGE, agarose gels and western blots, on your iPhone or iPad. HOW IT WORKS • Snap a picture of your gel and crop it to the region you want, with perspective correction. • MyGels recognises lanes and bands automatically. You can adjust them by hand. • Mark a lane as your molecular weight marker to calibrate the gel, and read off molecular weights in kDa. • Tap a lane to see its intensity profile with detected peaks. Tap a peak to see band area and molecular weight. RESULTS YOU CAN USE • Quantify bands, with baseline correction. • Export annotated gels, plots of your bands of interest, and all the raw data for analysis in third-party software. • Add titles and keywords so you can find your gels again. MyGels keeps your gels as files, so it's easy to organise them and keep track of your experiments, and puts your results at your fingertips.
