This App turn your device into a Magnetic Strength Meter (DC Gauss Meter). DC magnetic fields can develop in many steel or iron objects if they have been exposed to magnetic fields, current, or friction. This App detects residual magnetism in steel parts quickly and accurately. Simply place the device edge near or against the object being tested, to have a reading representing the magnetism in the object at that site as well as polarity. Will also possible to verify thoroughness of de-magnetizing. Check out your car, bed frame, desk furniture or any other metal objects you spend time with. Can also be used to check the strength of magnets. Features: - Detect the strength of Magnetic force fields on all three axis’s (x,y,z) - Switchable units: Tesla, Gauss - 1 mG (0.1μT) Resolution Applications: - Assessment of magnetic materials. - Analysis of magnetic circuits and components - Measurement of residual magnetis - Measure stray and leakage fields - Measurement of absolute, and differential fields - Testing, sorting, classifying magnets - DC and AC motor testing - Relay and solenoid test - Loudspeaker test Note: the measure is never 0 because there is the Earth's magnetic field

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is price: Pole Detector at Free against Magnetometer / Gaussmeter's $0.99. Pole Detector also leads on update cadence (every 10 days vs every 40 months) and review sentiment (60% vs 50%). Magnetometer / Gaussmeter's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 11.0). On ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Pole Detector is free to download; Magnetometer / Gaussmeter costs $0.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Magnetometer / Gaussmeter holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Pole Detector has 6 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Magnetometer / Gaussmeter's written reviews are positive against 60% of Pole Detector's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Magnetometer / Gaussmeter ships an update every 40 months, Pole Detector every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
