Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: A FB2 Reader at none against FBReader's 2. A FB2 Reader also leads on review sentiment (67% vs 52%) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 13.0). FBReader's advantage is rating (3.7 vs 3.4) and ratings volume (128 vs 5). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. FBReader sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. A FB2 Reader asks for nothing beyond the download.
FBReader holds the better App Store score, 3.7 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: FBReader has 128 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of A FB2 Reader's written reviews are positive against 52% of FBReader's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
A FB2 Reader ships an update every 2 weeks, FBReader monthly. Both last shipped on October 3, 2026.
