Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Epicenter at none against EarthQuake+'s shown. Epicenter also leads on review sentiment (80% vs 45%) and update cadence (every 4 days vs every 3 months). EarthQuake+'s advantage is ratings volume (2.3K vs 39) and monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs paid). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Epicenter sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and EarthQuake+ sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
EarthQuake+ holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: EarthQuake+ has 2.3K ratings behind it against 39, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 80% of Epicenter's written reviews are positive against 45% of EarthQuake+'s, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Epicenter ships an update every 4 days, EarthQuake+ every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
