Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is ads: Epicenter at none against Earthquake's shown. Epicenter also leads on update cadence (every 4 days vs every 2 weeks) and review sentiment (80% vs 70%). Earthquake's advantage is ratings volume (3.6K vs 39) and rating (4.7 vs 4.4). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. Earthquake sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Epicenter sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Earthquake holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Earthquake has 3.6K ratings behind it against 39, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 70% of Earthquake's written reviews are positive against 80% of Epicenter's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Earthquake ships an update every 2 weeks, Epicenter every 4 days. Both last shipped on October 29, 2026.
