Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: ChronoTap at none against Watch Chess's 3. ChronoTap also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.5). Watch Chess's advantage is ratings volume (83 vs 1) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, ads and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.
