Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Clean Swell at 61% against YMSL's 17%. YMSL's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 4.3) and ratings volume (1.5K vs 28). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
YMSL holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: YMSL has 1.5K ratings behind it against 28, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 61% of Clean Swell's written reviews are positive against 17% of YMSL's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Clean Swell ships an update monthly, YMSL every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
