Reviews of Sense Home

  • Make it better/Fix the Custom name feature

I still want this app to be better, but it consistently makes incorrect assumptions about devices/appliances that turn on. What makes this intolerably worse is the fact that the custom name feature doesn't work: you should be able to click on "custom" and then input the name of the device that actually just turned on. This doesn't work at all, rendering the app, useless IMHO. And it gets worse from there. To report a bug you are directed to a "submit a request" webpage. On this page, it asks you multiple questions about the device you're using and the browser and whether it's iOS or other operating system, and you fill all this information out get to the bottom of the form and click submit and the submit button doesn't work!!! What a mess. Come to find out. This has been a problem for as long as Sense has been around. Fix this "bug" that has been a problem from the start, and the app becomes useable and useful. I highly do not recommend this device an app unless you read that this feature has been fixed.

  • Feature removal, hardware reliability, and data transmission concerns

The recent removal of the billing calculation feature, which I found to be incredibly useful, has caught my attention. I remember this feature being marketed when I purchased the product, and its absence has slightly impacted my user experience. I’d like to suggest reconsidering the decision to remove it or provide an alternative that still addresses this need. Also, I’ve been noticing intermittent connectivity issues, even though the signal strength is consistent from my end. If it’s a server-related issue, I believe it could benefit from further examination. Lastly, I’ve observed data transmissions utilizing DNS-over-HTTPS. This practice is not inherently problematic, but perhaps there could be more transparency about the purpose and control of these transmissions for user assurance. Looking forward to improvements in these areas for a better user experience.

  • Don’t buy this unless you really want to know how much power you are using

I have had the Sense energy monitor for over a year. I look at it multiple times a day. So much that my wife gets on me! It is an amazing device that shows you your real time electricity usage. You can see what devises have been left on and how much each appliance uses. I have the solar version since I have two breaker boxes for my home.

Sense is a little slow in finding devices, but after a year it has identified 44 unique devices in my home. I can see exactly what my pool pump cost to run as well as my EV. It will change the way you think about each device (space heaters use a ton of energy while bathroom vent fans and ceiling fans use almost nothing).

I also use this to match my energy use to my solar panel output which helps save me money and reduces what I send back to the grid.

My only recommendation would be a “tagging “ option to quickly label something after you turn it on.

Highly recommend this for data junkies like myself.
