I purchased the 4 port unit around the beginning of June along with the wifi hub. I have a diy in ground sprinkler system from rainbird as well as a spigot that is in a fenced in area of a flower bed. I had 2 rainbird timers on a 4 port extension along with a regular water hose. This unit replace the 4 port extension and the 2 rainbird timers. I can turn the hose water on when I need it from my phone without having to go in the mulch bed and then track dirt and mulch back on my deck every time to turn the water on and off. I have tested turning on the sprinklers while away from my house and it does work. A nice feature as well but I mainly bought for the convenience and consolidation to one timer unit. I had some issues with the wifi hub at first not telling the unit to turn on but after I did an update to the software on the wifi hub it has worked without issue. The app can get very advanced if you really want to get into lawn elevation changes and catch cups etc. I also find the rain delay really handy so I’m not wasting water by running the sprinklers on a day it’s raining. So far so good.Show lessOperating Explained
I love the B-hive watering system. However, it would really help if there were more instructions and explanations about the smart watering system and the soil moisture content. I would like to understand the process of watering measurements and how the system works better. I have two master’s degrees in real estate.
Also, I recently installed the Orbit misting system. The directions that come with the system are severely lacking. Especially as to where to mount it. For example, I apparently have too much water pressure at the spigot, and the people and furniture are getting soaked. I have now spent an additional $200 on other parts, eg brass extenders, elbows, mounting brackets, sediment cleaners, mister cleaners, mister extenders, and now a pressure reducing piece. Worse yet, I now have to takeoff the ENTIRE thing down and move it further out to the end of the porch soffit to try and get the correct mist envelope. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN REALLY BETTER TO HAVE HAD THIS KNOWLEDGE COMING WITH THE ORIGINAL MISTER KIT!Show lessAlmost useless
You can schedule watering but don’t expect the watering to actually happen. From what I can tell, “smart watering” is a guarantee that your lawn will never be watered. Switching off “smart watering” and providing even the most basic water-this-zone-once-a-day is, at best, a hope/suggestion/prayer that the lawn will actually be watered. Most of the time the app says the zone will turn on at some specified point in the future only to watch that time come and go with the sprinklers sitting frustratingly silent. Manually controlling the zone from the app does seem to reliably work though, so I guess it’s not entirely useless!
Other than that, the app is horribly designed both from a visual and information architecture standpoint. Buttons are squashed together in inconspicuous places and the inconsistent swipe gestures mean you’ll likely end up backing out of a screen unintentionally.
I only use the app because I made the investment in the sprinkler controllers and wifi hub thinking (mistakenly) that the app would relieve me from needing to crouch over the controller outside to program the zones. Nope. Still have to go outside to do that because the app can’t seem to do it correctly.Show less
