Discogs has been great, but...

This app has helped me get back into record collecting. It’s almost too easy now.

Still, I think there is some room for improvement. I get a message from discogs every few days that lists ‘99 newly listed items’ or something to that effect. I have seen the same records from the same sellers for quite a while, so something seems wrong there. In addition, it would be nice to be able to filter that list by location; it is simply not practical to buy LPs from Europe because of shipping costs.

It would also be nice to have favorite sellers! If i were able to search a handful of sellers that I have been very happy with, I would probably buy more albums.

Is mostly good

Having the ability to search any vinyl while shopping and seeing the ones I own is pretty awesome to say the least. However being able to edit/add new albums in the app would help it drastically to say the least.

Disappointing update - version 2.2.2

The new UI is OK - I’m still adjusting to the layout changes. It seems prettier, but no more useable than the previous UI. The big problem though is as other reviewers have mentioned: the search functionality has been greatly reduced. The barcode reader (the absolute BEST feature of the old version of the app) is gone and replaced with ??? A camera button? Is it a reverse image search? If only there were some indication in the app of how the search change is supposed to work. Also, I can no longer save notes when adding a release to my collection. C’mon guys... did you beta test this? Did your beta testers get instructions that didn’t make it to the general public?

Why the update with less information?

App was great..”was”. It gave you all the information you needed...”gave”. You can’t type in the version number of the record & have it pull up...now you have to type in the title. Also, you have to click on every single release to see what the version is...I don’t know why it can’t show it under the “Released in US” like it used to (this adds an incredible amount of time if you’re trying to catalog a big stack).

Plus, why did we take away the labeling of what tracks were on what side/record (it still shows it on “My Collection” albums, but why do I have to add it to my collection to see it)? I created “My Collection” a couple months ago, but if this update had happened before I did...I wouldn’t use it.

Bring back what was taken away.

New Update is TERRIBLE!

I have been a big fan of this app for a couple of years now, and I have catalogued over 1,200 records...but now this app is nearly impossible to use. Barcode scanner causes the app to crash, search by title is useless (it makes suggestions that have absolutely nothing to do with my search), and I get constant error messages now. Please go back to your old format or I guess I’ll just have to spend the time cataloguing my collection somewhere else.

Search Useless

I used to love this app but now the search is useless. I can’t find artists or albums by searching even the full title and artists. It’s a shame but with search working, this app is useless

Close but no cigar

This is supposed to be a mobile version of the Discogs site you can access on your desktop computer. Lots of the things work (search, wants list, you can start an order). Lots of things don’t: you cannot actually pay for an order because the PayPal function freezes, you cannot remove feedback or save sellers. All of the irritating flaws in the desktop version are also present (cue 15,000 emails a day regarding your wants list). Like all tech companies, whatever they claim, there is absolutely no support whatsoever. It still gives you access to a lot of dope wax though. Overall a useful but deeply flawed and pretty irritating app.

Response from developer

Hi there, thank you for your feedback here. The App and the website are not equal and might have differences We haven't had any problems with PayPal on the App but we would love to hear more about it to fix anything to improve your experience. The endpoint of an order is to leave feedback and add to Collection, if you have trouble with a seller and you would like to file a Feedback review, you will have to view the order on the browser. Save seller is not possible on Discogs overall, would be nice to have but at this time is not possible. We do have the support and we will be happy to help if you have any troubles, please contact us at help@discogs.com

A few tweaks..

I couldn’t see how to save a certain seller as a favourite... when browsing a sellers inventory if I click on a listing to see more info and then go back, it puts me right back to the start of the list (and if you are trawling through hundreds or thousands, it’s the worst thing to have to scroll all the way back through). Maybe another filter option could be price bands like £0-£5 etc and the option for a search bar in sellers inventory and page numbers to browse rather than a continuous list?. but loving the app so much easier to use than the website on a phone 👍🏻

Impressed

Liking the service. Just made my first orders and excited to get them. I like the collection and wantlist features. I’d maybe like a favourite feature for the collection and for a way to sort those to the top of your list. And maybe a priority feature for the wantlist (important and very important or even want and NEED) would also help keep apart stuff you want in the future and something you’re considering getting just now.

Thanks though as a budding collector I really like the app

Buggy when used to maintain collection

- no visual indicator for visited release entry pages. This makes it really hard to track your place in a long list of releases (eg a record with 25 variants over 30 years)

- adding a record to your collection from its release entry page doesn’t update the page to show media condition and notes fields, so you have to leave the page to go do that

- eventually the media condition and notes entry fields will “stack” 2 or 3 deep, showing the transition animation for each “level.” If you don’t back out to the first entry field to enter text, the text is often lost and has to be re-entered.

- the search tab will incorrectly show a back arrow in the top left corner with “Notes” when there is no such page to return to.

- the app eventually crashes under the above circumstances. Adding more than 2 or 3 records to your collection before it starts misbehaving is rare.
