Wish we could resize photos

I really like this app and I would be using it, signed up on a Premium Plan and writing in it every day except ... there is no ability to resize photos and until that happens then, with regret, this will not be the app I settle on. It makes me really sad to say though - everything else about it is exactly what I want: clean interface, brilliant systems for tagging etc, excellent search features, ability to keep your journal offline. I really hope that one day the ability to resize images comes because there appear to have been many requests over the years (including recent ones in the forum). For anyone though who does not need this feature then I would recommend this app and, if the feature wasn't on my wish-list then I would probably be offering a rating of 5 stars. As it is though, this is not usable for me.

Hi! Thanks for your detailed feedback on the app. I made sure to share that with the rest of the team so we can improve the app further.

You don’t have to worry about Apple’s Journal-you’re SO far ahead of it!

Fantastic app! For my needs it works 100% even in a free version. I LOVE new feature that allows changing the date of your entry right from the main screen, without the need to go into submenus!!! as I often create entries for the future dates and use this app as a “reminder app” of sorts in addition to it’s primary purpose. A+++ work, team! Keep it up and thank you! 😁

Journal template gone

Since yesterday’s update, my most used journal template is not available when starting a new entry (I can find it under manage templates but can’t select it to use). My other templates are there. Seems to be a known problem from January yet it has only just happened to me. Please fix it! And no, I will not be paying for Premium just to use this feature. And my locations change themselves days and weeks after I’ve completed that entry (not related to the update).

You don't need the Premium subscription to use Templates. Can you please elaborate on how you tried to add the templates? Are you starting from a blank entry? Or, are you using the paper clip to add the Template to an entry? Have you also checked to see if your devices have the encryption key? If you still need further assistance with this, please reach out for support at https://dayoneapp.com/contact/ We're also interested in learning more about your location's issues, and we'll do our best to help you with them.

Love it!

I have always journaled though less in the last few years and wanted to be more consistent with it recently. I am very much used to paper journals and I have reams & reams of note books I have used over the years. Was introduced to this app last year and it’s been 💥💥💥👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾❤️❤️❤️.

First it’s great that one can use it for free (and without adverts!) though limited to one device which would have still been ok that one can access it like so and still get all the benefits but I wanted to be able to grab it on the go if something happened or idea popped into mind that I wanted to document straight away so I got the premium. Cost is very reasonable for an annual subscription and the benefits are 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾!

I can use it on any of my devices, it automatically syncs and updates on all of them and I just discovered the transcription option!!😮😮😮 Game changer!!

I am someone who still likes to use/see the written word but a lot of times my thoughts are faster than my hands! (Flight of ideas I call it!!😆) so doing an audio recording that can also transcribe into words has been amazing. Yes, a few mistakes expected with some of the words and phrases due to ebb & flow of speech, accents and slangs but reasonably accurate actually.

Overall, I am really enjoying the app and grateful to have come across it🙏🏾

Book printing

I’ve been using this app for many many years and have created many different journals and indeed I’ve also used the facility to print a book from my individual journals and they are very good and compared to other options, relatively cheap. However, the competition is increasing and recently I travelled internationally and used one of the many more recent travel diaries including Polarsteps which has an incredible facility to create a photo book which runs rings around the book printing facilities in Day One. There are almost no options available to vary the print quality or print size in DayOne and I guess that this might explain the relative, cost compared to other options.

Amazing Journal(s)

I’ve been using Day One for a few years now, and I’ve varied my use of it overtime from something I needed to confide in, to a recordkeeping tool, regular journal, basically whatever I needed. The best part about it is for all my different needs, you can just create a different journal and have all these different journals accessible within the app.

It is easy to go back and find older entries or specific events or mentions or things using the search function. You can also custom tag entries which is handy. I also like that it has a “on this day” feature that will show you entries from this day from previous years.

Sometimes I type my entries out, and sometimes I dictate my entries and go back and fix them up real quick with the keyboard, but you can also put in video entries, which I don’t do much, but I do upload a lot of photos. You can also have your entries printed out over whatever time range you want if you would like hardcopies as well.

It’s only slightly higher priced than a hardcopy journal, and yet it comes with so, so, so many more features. It syncs across all my devices and I use it all the time, any time, anywhere. I highly recommend this journal.

Life Well Organised

I’ve been using the DayOne journalling app for a couple of years now after a break from Evernote and moving away from paper journals. It’s easy for me to organise my ideas, life and business across iPhone and iPad and on my Mac. I have about 6 different journals and use my own custom journal prompt templates. Tagging and finding my journal entries with keyword search works well and I can pick up from where I left off on any of my devices, securely. I love adding handwritten notes, voice notes, drawings and photos when inspiration strikes. I’ve recommended this app to my friends and would recommend it for anyone looking for a secure, portable journal.

day one

I liked this app - what i don't like is paying for the premium application as a yearly subscription, and the frigging sync deciding it isn't going to keep syncing, maybe because someone plays funny buggers with my apple accounts...either way, I'm less impressed now than I was initially. And correspondence from the application developers really didn't help! I don't appreciate paying for an application, to then have it's "creators" decide to up the ante on my personal writing/thoughts/photographs - without providing any addition security for the app. itself. The response from application developers is inconsistent with advice on the application help section and they very obviously don’t put negative reviews on the application download page, because they’d like you to believe it’s “safe”. It isn’t! Not only do the app developers have the capacity to access your content, paying for a yearly subscription does not mean you are a “preferred” customer - just that they think you’re too stupid to notice when entries go “missing”! Seriously - now exceptionally unimpressed!

Hello again! As mentioned in our previous review, you own all your content. We do not share any information to any third parties. We cannot view the content or media that is added to entries thanks to End to End Encryption. There is no way for us to see the contents of your entries. If you are having trouble with sync or don't see some of your entries within the app, please reach out to us directly so we can look into that with you. Day One > Settings > Support > Contact Support.

Don’t use it. it doesn’t sync photos between iPad and iPhone any more.

I’ve literally spent weeks trying to get support to fix this. This used to be such an excellent app, one I used daily. But now it’s a fifty percent chance whether photos added on one device will even be visible in another device. I have up to date software, and have checked with them repeatedly, but they haven’t fixed it even slightly and don’t even have a time frame on when they would fix it.

I regret to say that if photos matter to you in your journaling, and if losing content would be a real problem for you, then this app is no longer the one to reach for.

Great until data disappears.

I’ve been a premium user for 11 years and have over 4000 days of entries. I’ve also recommended the app to many people, however I no longer will be.

I recently had to reinstall the app because it kept crashing and two of my journals went missing.

I tried all the steps in your help articles to retrieve the missing data, and when that didn’t work I contacted your support, as advised in your help articles.

I was extremely disappointed when your help technicians repeatedly referred me back to the support articles I had already read and suggested methods I had already tried.

It seems the data that went missing has simply disappeared (over 350 entries) and the help technicians can’t explain why or offer an apology.

I trusted your app to store my data, but now doubt the reliability of your service and I’m extremely worried that other journals may go missing in the future when your app crashes again.

No apologies were offered. Just an email stating all options have been exhausted.

At this point I feel like I’m wasting my money on a service that doesn’t actually keep my information safe.

If you value the information you are putting into your entries on the day one app I urge users to seek alternate methods of back up because Day One backups are unreliable as I have sadly discovered.
