Great Journaling App

Whether you are new to journaling or a seasoned pro, this app has something for everyone. Some of the things that I love about the app include pre-populated templates to begin your journaling. If you have never journaled, this makes it easy to get started because you don’t have to think about what to write about. If you are more seasoned and/or you know how and what you want to write about each day, you can easily build a custom template and begin with the same template each day.
I love being able to add pictures to the journal as well. There are several ways you can use this, but I prefer to add any pictures from the to day to my daily journal entry. Some of the other features include being able to add or include other types of media to your entry. Although I personally do not use this feature, it is cool to know its there. I also appreciate the timeline feature of the app. This allows you to go back and see previous days, months and years. It also allow a streak building for your journaling habit. Highly recommend. This and the Bible app are two apps that I use every day without fail.

Day one

This is the best diary application that I have come across. It is very functional and has lots of features. so far as I know it doesn’t work on Windows machines, but it really is perfect on iPhone and iPad. It’s very responsive and quite easy to navigate.
The biggest problem that I find with it is not a criticism of the application it Millia criticism of me, forgetting to put in an entry on each particular day and sometimes I’ll go for a week or more without remembering to do anything on the app.
It is sometimes quite convenient to look at photographs in the photograph album for given dates and they can act as an aide memoire regarding past events and they can be added to the calendar entries.
So for me, it’s a great app and it comes highly recommended by me

Exceptionally poor support

First the positives: a great app for journaling. Easy to use and intuitive interface although that interface could be more attractively presented as it is something out of the 80s right now. The addition of photos to your journal is great and they are placed in the journal entries just as you would expect. After taking the Premium membership I decided to retro add photos to my journal and discovered a problem: when adding photos you are presented with a really well thought out grid of photos that are arranged by date. However, the latest version of Day One on the iPad always reverts to a date in early January and I have to then scroll back to the date that I want to select photos from. This led me to the incredibly poor customer service experience when I asked their support for help. I was answered with an automated email saying that technical support was confined to Premium users, which I am, and then a long winded set of instructions suggesting I look for the answers myself. I have not had any further response from support. If it was possible I would cancel my subscription and move to the app I was trialling alongside Day One before my decision to stay with Day One.

Response from developer

Thank you for your patience! We have had an above average amount of ticket requests at this time. It sounds like you have encountered a known issue when using Day One on iPad with a Magic Keyboard. We are investigating the issue. If you disconnect the magic keyboard, the photo picker should not automatically scroll to a different date. We do have an AI assistant helping with initial responses. If the automated response was not helpful, please reply to it and a human Happiness Engineers will be with you as quickly as possible. Thanks!

Turned me into a journaller!

I’ve never been the type of person to stick to journaling but I’ve always wanted to be. Until I downloaded Day One, I could never remember what I did, how I felt or understand my emotions to the fullest extend. Now however, having used this AMAZING app- I feel that my thoughts are more organised and I’m able to actually reflect and put into words how I feel about my day without thinking that I’ve done nothing or that I can’t remember. It makes me feel more confident about my emotions and self efficacy to communicate🩷it’s a wonderful structure that actually makes me more introspective, makes me a better communicator and emotional thinker and think of ways to improve myself everyday. I love that I can make my own templates, my daily template to ask myself questions to answer everyday has honestly shaped and improved my mental health. Adding a picture of the best part of my day everyday or my OOTD and seeing it on calendar view is the best part🥺I can’t wait to see my progress at the end of the year, make the pictures into a montage and look back to everything that I’ve done!

Good app bad support

The app is pretty good so far but if you don’t sign up perfectly with your phone and computer (for example you have different Apple IDs attached to both) they won’t sync properly and the support team won’t help you. I’ve contacted the support team 3 times now and each time I just get an automated message saying they prioritize paying customers and that if you’re a non paying customer go look on the forums. But I am a paying customer and it’s been over a month and I still haven’t heard anything. I’ve looked in the forums as well and none of them offer any help to my situation either. Frustrating to say the least.

All my entries GONE

We have been paying for this app and use it when we take trips, logging locations and photos. We are not sure when but ALL of our entries are GONE. Heartbreaking.

We would love to try some recovery options to help you. Day One has a couple of backup options to avoid data loss. The following guide has all recovery options possible for Day One journal data.  https://dayoneapp.com/guides/data-loss-and-recovery-options/ If those have not been helpful, please contact our support team and we will work with you on this issue. Day One has changed my life

I wanted a journal to keep a record of my life but Day One is so much more. I started with the free version but when I learned about all the great features of the paid edition I switched and I’m so glad I did. I’ve been using the premium edition for over 3 years. I love the voice memo and I upload videos and photographs to my entries that take journaling to another level. I love the unlimited journals on premium and I have quite a few as I have many interests. I use Day One in my business to provide an information PDF which I export to my clients on Signal and it’s just fantastic how well both apps work together. I tell people to get Day One and transform their lives. It’s has for me! PS. A BIG thank you 🙏 to the developers and a kiss from me 😘

As good as ever

I’ve been using Day One for years, it was Day One Classic when I first downloaded the app. Premium was introduced, Day One was taken over by Automattic. Both could have been the end of Day One as it was. I’m happy to say it wasn’t. You can’t please everyone all the time but they do listen.

The latest update was liked by some, others pointed out things that didn’t work. Day One did an update a week later addressing some issues raised.

I don’t journal seriously like some but I record things I’d like to go back to. Want to see what you did on your birthday 5 years ago? If you made an entry search by date or On This Day will quickly show you. There are lots of other features. Some you’ll use, others you won’t

Perfect journal app

I searched for a long time to find the perfect journal app. An app that was flexible enough so I could set it up exactly how I need it and change it as my needs change. It also has just enough inspiration to keep me going. The books to look back on help me to see how for I have come! Not to mention the gamify quality of continuous days in a row! Absolutely love it! Thank you!

Finally paid for it

Been using Day One off and on for over 10 years. Recently I’ve been dealing with trauma recovery and an eating disorder and was looking for something to do 3 times a day “check ins” to stop and recognize what my body feels, emotions etc to recognize they are happening, feel them and allow my nervous system to let the feelings subside in a healthy way. I spent a day looking at different “check in” apps and journals. Thought about just doing little notes in the habits app I use. Or the check in apps where you tap emotions and smiley faces. All dumb and none of the journaling apps really do what Day One does. So I downloaded it again and realized a perfect solution is to pay for premium and have a “daily checkins” journal and a regular one. When I write a long form proper entry I can put it in the journal…the short ones that are just noticing thoughts and feelings (an exercise) I can put in the other. Eventually decided you know I pay $100 for each therapy session and incorporating Day One into my self care routine with all the features is definitely worth $30 a year. I can also send a quick email from work if I miss a check in and don’t want to pull out my phone.

Last thought…please just keep developing and supporting the app! I would hate to see it abandoned someday.
