  • This is the one

Since acquiring a new iPad with a stylus, I have been testing a wide range of sketching/note/drawing apps: some paid, some free. This is the best thought-out and deployed drawing and writing app I have had the good fortune to discover. Don’t waste your time going around the houses—this is the one. Simple to use and understand, it’s great for sketching, planning, writing notes, and composing design ideas. This is the only app I can say ‘feels’ like using paper and has enabled me to substitute my notepad and pen. Well done, and thank you for developing this truly outstanding piece of software.

  • Not good

Not happy with this app at all. Not at all user friendly

    Developer Response

Moonryver, we'd love to hear what could be more user friendly in Linea. We've done our best to make the app as easy and approachable as possible but things can always be better. Please drop us a line at support@iconfactory.com and let us know where you think we could improve. Thanks so much and thanks for using Linea.
  • Quickly turning into my favorite sketch app

Linea strikes a perfect balance of features and usability. It has just enough drawing tools that I don't t feel stifled and not so many they feel like a gimmick. The interface feels comfortable, so that drawing with the Apple Pencil is responsive, the pressure is well represented without force, and erasure with a finger is natural as rubbing something off the page. This is so much better than toggling between modes. Likewise, if my wrist rests on the display, it doesn't mess up my drawing.

The app offers layering, importing of images for reference or tracing, blend modes, and a clever draw-and-hold to get straight lines with a repositionable endpoint. Exporting is trivial, making this tool a nice solution to any step in a workflow.

  • Great for Notes

I initially downloaded the app when it was released as it had been reviewed so well for notes and sketch noting. I’m not much of an artist, just a napkin sketcher and this app makes it fun to just sit and sketch for a while. I primarily use it for notes and brainstorming as I don’t retain much when I try to type notes. This app has always been great for that, and the 2.0 update was a surprise to me and added so many great updates such as the select tool, split screen (great for notes) and the portrait orientation. If I could request one addition it would be the ability to export to .pdf. I have to figure out a workaround currently to get my notes to PDFs and it would be great to have that feature inbuilt.
All in all, this is an enjoyable app to use, simple yet functional. I have recommended to many others and would purchase again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the great feedback about Linea Sketch, it's appreciated. True PDF support is on the list for the future but there is a work around for this now that you can use to export to PDF in the meantime. When you go to export your drawing select the option that lets you send the file to your printer. Then pinch-out on the screen and you'll see options that will allow you to save as a PDF. Hope this helps!
  • Unbelievably good

All the best features in one app. I would put or draw (!) six stars if I only could... draw.

  • Nice if you want to keep things simple

I’m learning to sketch and have been using ProCreate as an analog to pencil and paper. I decided to give Linea a try and I’m pleased I did because the interface is so much nicer than ProCreate and less daunting, but I still feel there are a couple of things I’d love to see come over to Linea that ProCreate offers:

    * Some sort of smudge tool for blending fills like you do with graphite and your finger in real life.
    * A time-lapse video of me doing the sketch. It can be fascinating to watch these back in ProCreate and see how your sketch came to life.

Updates have been slow coming and I was worried they’d decided not to keep the app updated but March 2018 they surprised us with some additional functionality including portrait mode and the ability to import photos. Hopefully they’ll be adapting the app into the de facto standard for sketching apps as time goes by.

Linea Sketch was just updated to version 2.0 in March and added tons of new features including straight line (ZipLine) support, move/transform of selections, split-screen, portrait support, drag and drop support and more. Please do take a look and consider updating your star rating if you would, every bit helps. Thanks for listening and thanks for using Linea Sketch.
  • Wow!

I loved Linea before but it was missing a few key features like selection, copy and paste (straight on to the Mac) and straight lines. This new version v2 is awesome. It’s like the developers listened to me personally and added everything I wanted. It’s implemented really nicely and it’s so easy to use. This has to be the best drawing program out there by a mile. I’d give it ten stars if I could. Now I just need to learn how to draw!

I can now sketch my UI ideas on the iPad and drop them straight into Pages on the Mac. The iPad is now truly useful.

Here’s hoping for text support in v3. 😀

The 2.0 update of Linea Sketch was released in March of 2018 and includes the ability to select, copy, move and transform any part of your sketches across all or just individual layers. It also includes ZipLine that lets you draw straight lines (and polygons) with ease. Please update your copy and check it out, we think you'll be pleased. Thanks for using Linea Sketch!
  • 2.0 Update is great

I use Linea mostly for UI sketching and note taking during meetings. For the past year my biggest issues have been straight lines (face it, the Pencil slips on glass…), a need to copy, scale and move sections and finally image imports.

Linea Sketch addresses all of those - a welcome improvement to a great tool. 👍🏻

So glad to read your review of the new update with the awesome ZipLine and selection features. Happy they addressed your primary concerns about the app. Thanks for taking the time to leave us your review as well, very appreciated. Enjoy using Linea Sketch!
  • Simple elegance

Simple interface, yet great for drawing. The app gets out of your way, and just lets you draw. The incredibly clever color picker is a revelation. A couple of minor quibbles. Given this is v1, expect more features to be added (want portrait, image import...). Still giving five-stars.

UPDATE: Version 2 added both my requests, and much, much more. 5++ Stars. The only drawing I need.
