  • One flaw

I really enjoy the interactive piece of HiMama. It is informative and helps us as parents keep up with our child’s learning. The only flaw I find is that when my child is checked in, I get a stay tuned message and the timeline says she’s checked in, but there’s nothing for when they check out until the report is sent. Please add a checked out function. At times we ask grandparents to pick up our child and knowing they checked them out is helpful

  • Love keeping up with our granddaughter.

Having the ability to watch our granddaughter’s progress from afar is such a gift. We love receiving pics on the days she’s in day care. The app is appreciated, though it is a bit quirky for users beyond the parental version. There are times you get stuck on a pic and can’t seem to get back to the home page. Also it sometimes freezes when clicking on a pic and it isn’t smooth when using a phone trying to read others’ comments. Still the quirkiness is a minor thing relative to the overall value of seeing how our granddaughter is doing.

  • Love this app!!!

I absolutely love that I can see what my boys are doing during their day at pre-school. By visualizing their lesson plan for the day, it gives me an opportunity to ask them specific questions about what they are learning. Their teacher posts the book they read that day or the projects they worked on. Previously, when I would ask them about what they did at school that day (at the prior day care), they would typically answer with “nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️". Even though I knew that wasn't true lol. Now I can ask them about their sunflower seed project or the butterfly painting that they did that day. The app also allows for the teachers to send messages to me and my husband directly (items we might need to bring in, upcoming events, etc). I was able to see pictures of them smiling and running around on the playground with new friends, which helped me to feel more comfortable when my boys (ages 2 1/2 & 5) switched schools. Overall I am very happy with this app!

  • More details more consistent updates

I am a parent not a provider so this could be specific to how my provider is using the app. That being said it would be great to have more details in the entries such as comments in diaper changes and ate most of the meal and drink. Well what didn’t they eat or drink? Was it ate most because they ate no vegetables but all of the rest or did they eat and drink most of what was provided? Also, recently I haven’t been getting updates as often as I had before during the day. The teachers didn’t change so I assume they are entering information as often as they used to but I’m going hours without seeing any changes to the report on my end.

Hi there, thank you so much for taking the time to leave us this review. When adding entries, the teacher can select the options provided and use the 'notes' field to add more details. We recommend reaching out to the center and let them know you'd like to see more details about your child's activities and also the real-time updates. Feel free to reach out to support@himama.com if you have any further questions and we're more than happy to help you! 😉
  • Missing a couple of things

I just started using this app and I feel it is missing a lot of features.
My child was at another daycare and they used brightwheel. I find that app much better to see the daily report.
It doesn’t show the check in time and when my son is checked out it doesn’t show at all and neither the time.
Also, I never get the notifications. I already checked in the app and I have set up to receive notifications.
I think there are still a lot of room for improvements.

  • The name is exclusionary to fathers

I like the app but the problem is that the name is exclusionary to fathers who are important to children’s growth, development and well being.

Thank you so much for the feedback and I understand where you are coming from! We chose to call ourselves HiMama because we originally wanted to pay homage to and were inspired by working mothers. However, we were naive not to consider how this could lead to other equally important and vital groups feeling excluded (fathers, grandparents, etc.). Our name triggering any feelings of exclusion was never our intention as we recognize everyone’s important role in our young children’s lives, regardless of racial, ethnic, religious, gender or sexual orientation.
  • Removing notifications

I love how the app allows me to see my child’s activities for the day! I’m frustrated though that even if I view my child’s report for the day (in two places within the app) and pull down to refresh, I still can’t get the notification to disappear unless I go back and refresh every day for the last two weeks to a month. Is there a way to just let the app figure out you’ve viewed the report in one area of the app (like All Daily Reports) and that removes the notification??? My OCD hates notification reminders :)

  • Major feature needed

I have communicated this to the developers:

The 4-5 other care apps I have used have a sleep timer feature. One button to hit when a child falls asleep and hit it again when they wake. No need to edit in a sleep start time. In group care it’s unlikely you will remember exactly when each infant or toddler fell asleep. Naps also coincide with staff breaks at centers, the person in the room isn’t always the same person for the duration of a child’s nap and wouldn’t know what to edit the start time to. Or when a nap ended, if, just before the next staff came in. With the other apps, different staff can start the timer and end the timer when they woke, tracking it wouldn’t be tied to the original observer knowing when a child fell asleep. It’s time consuming to have to write this stuff down just to communicate with each other about it. The whole point of the app is to not have to write down care notes, and naps are a big part of the infant and toddler care routines.

Also, you can’t seem to open any pdf attachments from smartphones.

  • Cannot download video directly from app and below average online support team

My daycare provider recently switched to HiMama for a few months. To be honest, I have not been impressed.

The biggest inconvenience is that I cannot download the videos directly from app. I reached out to online support team, with question “how can I download the video from the app?”. The support team typed a long description on how to download photos from the app. I took a step back, read my question and response received. I was thinking... is this for real? I responded, “I am not asking for photos. I am asking for videos”. The support team typed back. “It is the same process”. When asked further, they responded, “you can only download videos from web browser”. Okay, it is not the same process then?

When asked further if this is a feature himama will be working on. I was asked to email their support email address for evaluation... I sent an email out with daycare cced. So far, no one has responded.

To be honest, as a mama, I am not impressed. I feel that I have been slapped in the face instead of being greeted as the name of the app seems to suggest.

  • What’s the point?

My daycare uses this app to provide updates on the children in their care, but the information is only received by the parent after the daily report is finalized (when child is picked up). So, what’s the point? The app should be providing up to the minute information to the parent as the daycare staff are entering the information. It’s nice to know what has gone on during the day, but it’s annoying to only find out when I pick him up after work. At that point I may as well be getting a paper report and asking his teacher about his day.
