  • Microphone?

On iPad. You will spend a great deal of time trying to get the app to pick up your internal or even external mic every single time you open it. It probably works fine on the desktop version. I wouldn’t know because you have to buy the desktop version separate from the mobile app. Not buying the software twice. Bad business.

Hi, we also offer a subscription which gives access to all sections on all platforms for a low monthly or annual fee. On iPad, mic input shoudl work out of the box, so I would like to find out what the issue you are experiencing is caused by. Could you please contact our support at support@earmaster.com and explain exactly what is happening when you try to use the microphone feature. If you cna make a short video showing exactly what is happening, that would be a huge help to enable us to solve this with you.
  • Super Program with some wrinkles

Love the program! Provides terrific value and really helps mature my pretty weak ear. Thank you!
The down side is it seems to crash way too much and I get error messages about half the time. Then I just give it an hour or three before trying again. Although this is a pain, especially after they whack you for an additional $ 12 or more, the quality of the training might be worth it.
Hopefully, the powers that be will figure out and correct.

  • Does a Great Job

This app does everything any musician needs to excel at hearing the music and knowing what they are hearing. Congrats to the developers.
  • Almost perfect

Heads and shoulders above all other ear apps. What it needs for the Jazz Melodic Dictation section is optional jazz charts (chord progressions written above the melody, usually given to the rhythm section).

Actual lessons on jazz melody/harmony as it relates to the progressions would be nice, but having the jazz section presented as jazz charts instead of classically would be awesome.

In the Jazz Chord Progressions it would be nice to have a Jazz Standards Section, Autumn Leaves, Take The A-Train, Summertime, etc.

  • I use it every day

I’ve been using this app daily for a year to identify intervals and chords, and to sing intervals. I’ve made huge improvements. The progression of lessons leads you to mastery, and your progress is tracked so you can easily see your improvements and where you need more work. I love this app.
  • Could be better

Pretty good for practicing, but quite bad for learning. The system kind of punishes the user for making mistakes without any sort of positive reinforcement or tutorial kind of system.
  • Error

I keep getting error and it says audio unitinitialize failed. I paid $5.99 to get the beginner course but can’t use anything.
  • Love love love

I didn’t know where to begin with sight reading until I found this app.
    Here. Go here.
  • Best for Bass players

What separates EarMaster from the rest is the fact that it has a bass fretboard. Most of the other apps use a keyboard. When you get to the melodic dictation as a bass player, I spend most of my time searching for the correct note. EarMaster has made this easy. I travel for a living and I spend hours sitting in airports playing with EarMaster on my iPad. EarMaster has become part of my travel ritual.

  • Too expensive

There a number of other ear training apps available. At these prices I would rather pay a music teacher or take an online class. Paying $12 per section is outrageous. It would be cheaper to take a college course.

    Developer Response

Thanks for your feedback. To our knowledge, EarMaster is by far the most complete and technically advanced ear training and sight-singing app in the App Store, but of course this has a price. $12 for a workshop bundle gives you hundreds of interactive lessons to practice with any time you want. In comparison, that would barely give you half an hour of traditional tuition. As for college rates, well it's not really even comparable. But EarMaster is not a substitution to traditional ear training tuition, it's a practice tool. This is why it's used in thousands of music schools and colleges in most countries. I hope you will give it a try, the free version, though limited in content, is still offering you what most other free apps do - though with more features. Cheers, Quentin form EarMaster
