Bad
The app itself has never been able to locate my Enspire on the network (I checked the app permissions so that is not the problem)
Fortunately, you can access the actual Webapp directly in Safari if you know the local network name or IP address (this app is in fact just a way to discover the piano on the network before sending you to the Webapp)
The Webapp itself is not even good. It does the job but feels like a 20yo web app, certainly not like a native app.
There is so much potential with such an instrument, it is a shame Yamaha does not publish Web APIs for it so people who care a little bit more about this can produce something (much much) better.

Misunderstood
Clearly, the negative reviews are from those that did not receive the support from their salesperson. In most occasions when the app cannot connect to the piano it has absolutely nothing to do with the piano or the app it is their personal internet reliability. I’ve used this app since it came out and once I was comfortable with my internet connection I never had a problem. Nothing in tech is perfect but for sure I’ve played all other player systems ( Steinway Spirio, PianoDisc, QRS) of which all have even more issues and limitations.

Doesn’t work most of time
Never connects.
Can’t get it right
A clear example of how a large corporation like Yamaha from the 1980s can’t get technology right. The app, the system and everything else is a zero
Died after 9 months
What can $50,000.00 get you. Apparently not much. The player app no longer recognizes the piano. Tried everything from rebooting, unplugging, reinstalling apps. Still nothing. I was told, ensured, and promised there was nothing to worry about regarding the integrity or longevity of this product. Fortunately she’s still under warranty of which I intend to use. Very disappointed in Yamaha. My goal is to trade this heap in for a Steinway.

Could be amazing
At least 1/2 the time doesn’t connect to the piano.
When it doesn’t, the piano will play in the selected playlist til it gets to the last song, then instead of going back to the beginning of the playlist, it will just play the last song in the list & stop. And if I can’t connect to the piano that’s the only song it will play (and stop afterwards).
When it does connect, there’s so little you can do on the app.
With an update or two I could make my own playlist from the included songs. And so many more ideas!
Put some more effort into this Yamaha!!

I never saw such a bad app
The piano it’s OK. The disklavier and the App are a joke, i never thought yamaha could make such a bad product.
Getting stuck please send solutions
Please help love system but getting stuck
Broken
When you pay so much for a piano you would think the app would at least be functional. It is not. The app struggles to even find the piano, which in my case is on a solid network. The radio feature is very unstable. Some of the stations work and some don’t. Its just crazy to me because the piano doesn’t function without the app, so why would you make the app so poor?

Outdated and unsupported
This app could be so much more with just a little attention to the customer experience and what the modern day music streaming apps can offer. If you’re listening Yamaha, here is what you need to do, organized by the service or app feature to which the comments apply.
SONGS:
While the ability to play digitally downloaded performances on your Disklavier is its main attraction, the process of doing so with this app leaves much to be desired. For example, while you can create playlists of the music you own/purchase, there is no way you can ‘shuffle’ those playlists so that your choices play randomly instead of in a set order. This would be an easy feature to add but alas one which doesn’t appear on the horizon. As a result, get ready to hear the same songs, in the same order, forever. Unless you listen for hours on end, instead of for a few minutes in the evening or mornings you will never hear the end of your playlist.
Additionally, the process of creating playlists is far more difficult than it needs to be made much easier.
DISKLAVIER RADIO:
By far the most exciting, yet frustrating, service offered through the app (for a significant subscription fee) is the Radio feature. If you’re familiar with any of the major streaming services you’ll be familiar with the concept. Multiple choices of stations with many genres of music offered. But that is where the similarities end. “How?” you may ask?
- No skipping
- No playlist creation or sharing
- Unreliable connections
- No artist or song selection on demand
- No ability to purchase on demand
If Yamaha would just place a call to the folks at Spotify they could figure all this out and I would happily pay more. After all, when you spend nearly 30k on a piano, you’re not going to skimp when showing off (or attempting to) what it can do.
Which brings me to:
DISKLAVIER TV:
This “free” add on to the Disklavier Radio subscription was also the one that sold me on the Enspire. But there is a reason it’s free. Not only does it suffer from all the same deficiencies as the other features outlined above, it is completely limited in its operation to Screen Mirroring on IOS devices. Androids need not apply. Why in the name of God’s green earth would you limit your market like that? So if you don’t own an iPhone or iPad you can forget about it. As I’m thinking about it I think that may be true as to this entire app and that is just dumb.
Yamaha please do something great here. Don’t be satisfied with great pianos and crappy, outdated tech. You’re better than that!
At least you should be.
