Leave a Review My AcuRite
Serviceable but hopefully ongoing improvements
I just received this unit so my impressions are pretty fresh. I have had other AcuRite stations and sensors for a while.
First the WiFi setup was unnecessarily difficult and I ultimately ended up having to use use two different laptops, my iPad and my iPhone before I finally find something that could hold the unit’s fragile signal long enough to set it up. But. . . it’s not going to be transmitting a lot of data so I guess the signal need not be that robust and you only have to set it up once so. . . ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Once setup was complete I was disappointed to see that the app does not offer access to all the information available on the station itself. One of the selling points of WiFi access was the ability to monitor the temperature inside our home when we travel so we know if there are any problems with the heat in winter or A/C in the summer (our dog and cat stay home) but the app does not offer this information. It seems like it should.
Otherwise, so far, so good. Thanks AcuRite.Show lessWiFi stincks
I switched to a WiFi display unit. The software works OK, but the WiFi receiver in the display unit, has to be the cheapest one available. I went to the WiFi display, to eliminate using a PC, as with my previous unit. The WiFi display, was easy for me to get going, BUT. My router is in the same room, maybe 15 feet away from the display unit. Putting the display right next to the router, you get 4 BARS on the unit. At 10 feet, the BARS are 2-3 in the display. Where I need to place the display, is about 15 feet from the router, in open room space with no obstructions. The signal is 1 BAR, and fluctuates from 1 BAR to maybe 2-3 BARS, to dropping the connection altogether. The same router, connects to other devices, and all have full BARS, and never drop the WiFi signal, even in other rooms in the house. Some of the other WiFi units are out in my backyard, and connect with the router no problem.Show less24-Hour Rainfall History Nonsensical
The 24-hour rainfall history, in Charts, doesn't make sense. The purpose of a 24-hour look-back is to see the total rainfall accumulation of that time period, from the time the information is requested. The chart displays "total" and "high" amounts. The total figure displays the amount of rainfall from midnight of the day the information is requested, not the total rainfall of the previous 24-hour period. The "high" figure displays the total amount in the 24-hour period -- that doesn't make any sense. Unless you're wanting the most rainfall in a smaller timeframe within that 24-hour period, an hour, for example, "high" is illogical. It's merely a problem in the algorithm of the chart, for the previous 24 hours. Also, at midnight of the 24-hour rainfall history, the rainfall amount drops to zero. Again, illogical. The graph should display an accumulation in a 24-hour period -- assuming there was rain prior to midnight. This should be a simple problem to fix. Additionally, there appears to be no other way to communicate this type of issue to the app developers, other than by means of an app review.Show less
