One Downside

The only downside about this app, is the fact that when I click on the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) map, it tries to load it and crashes every single time. If this could be looked into I would be most grateful. Other than this everything works great and nice job!

-Edit: like the developer said the issue has been resolved, thank you very much!

Response from developer

The issue appears to have been resolved by the NIFC, so try the map again.

Crash course

Fires was at one time, my go to source for wildfire information. Slowly it’s become problematic, at first it wouldn’t open certain areas and I had to use the WWW button to get any useful information. Today I went to open after seeing a friend’s post about a fire near Big Bear. All that the app did was crash, repeatedly. So I deleted the app and came to the App Store to get the latest version. No luck, still crashes. So I deleted it and will just go to Inciweb or the Cal Fire site directly. 😔

Please check out the latest release. There was an issue where CAL FIRE decided to change the way they displayed their latitude and longitude in order to shake off our users by making it impossible for our app to process their fires without a new release. Unfortunately, this has happened before and it will happen again if CAL FIRE is not held accountable. You should write a complaint to CAL FIRE for refusing to provide API stability and mishandling your tax dollars.

Living in California, this app is kind of critical

UPDATE: I got a "Developer Response" this morning telling me to check out the latest version of the app. The only problem is that the latest version is two months old and that's what I was running when the crashes on Launch started. This version of the app is NOT compatible with iOS 18, this was proven true on my iPhone 13 Pro and also on my new iPhone 16 Pro. I love this app and it's more straightforward than any other app of its kind that I've found. Please make it work again!

And it's been great and reliable for several years. Until I updated my iPhone 13 Pro to iOS 18.

Now the app crashes upon launching every time. It wasn't a hardware issue because the same issue persists in the new iPhone 16 Pro that I picked up and activated yesterday.

I love this app, please make it work again!

Please check out the latest release. The release was delayed by a few days due to Apple’s submission queue being full, but we can assure you that the issue has been resolved and the release is now available. Great when it works

I have been using this app for years, but out of nowhere it has just stopped working. I open it and it immediately closes out. Even after deleting the app and restarting my phone before reinstalling. I was counting on this app to watch for the Bridge and Line fires in my area.

Please check out the latest release.

Incidents not showing

Great to have different base map options, but getting actual incidents to show on the maps is very difficult. It used to be automatic, but now (with my paid subscription!) they are no longer showing. I’m traveling oversees and need to track the Park fire near Chico. Thank goodness I also have CalTopo app.

Ryan- I just saw a response from you saying I’m not telling the truth. That’s pretty strong and not a great customer experience considering I’m paying for your subscription. I was using the app for free for years and it worked fine. Now that I’m paying for the subscription I don’t see the incidents on any of my maps (no, I’m not lying). I’d be happy to troubleshoot or have my money back.

The Park fire is working fine in the app and you are not telling the truth.

Amazing and up to date....8.6.24 update

Downgraded from 5 star to 1 star
What happened to the app???!!!! I use to have this app on my old phone but since I got my new phone it opens then immediately closes?!?!?
Have had this app for over a month now and absolutely love it. This app has let me keep an eye on wildfires in Northern Nevada and all over California especially in Southern Cali where my sister lives. Yes there are ads but you can chose to open or close them in the free version. Since downloading this app I can count on 1 hand how many ads I have seen. Would recommend to anyone living in an area prone to outbreaks of wildfires.

Better than ever!

I’ve used this app for a few years. It provides a wealth of information in a very timely manner. That’s very much appreciated. There have been well documented problems with Inciweb itself from which this app pulls a significant amount of its information. When that happens this app can reflect that, at least in the past. Also (in 2023) this app was non functional for many months for unexplained reasons. The developer has a website, but there was no information about what was going on with this app there. That situation enabled this user to assume the worst and ultimately delete the app from all devices even though I’d been a “Pro subscriber.” About once a week or so I was checking back to see if the app had been updated since there is no better app out there. Today, Monday, August 21, 2023, I was relieved and very pleased to find the app updated and working as expected — which is extremely well. We have 3 significant fires in our area now which, depending on wind direction, can inundate us with dangerous (for us) levels of smoke. Having all the information available to us in such a timely manner is vital. Thank you developer(s) for updating. In the future please put any information about any difficulties you may be experiencing on your website so your users can know what’s going on. You have the website. Use it!
