  • Still needs work

I have an iPhone SE 6 and critical text is cut off from the buttons making it unusable as I cannot differentiate between options. For example, when adding a device I see two buttons with the text “The light is blinking blue and” - tapping the top one and the app crashes, and the bottom one sends me in an endless setup loop. Worthless.

Update: It has been about a year and I am back, trying again with an iPhone 13. At least now I can see all of the text, but end result is the same - app still crashes EVERY time before completing the setup. It successfully connects to my network according to the status light, but crashes before adding the device to my account. Still worthless. But at least it successfully updated the firmware- that is something.

  • App is better but Google Integration fails

I had generation one app and it was awful and it did not work. With the upgraded app I can at least make things work from the app on my phone. The biggest issue I have now is that my family uses the Google connection to ask for Ren’ai to turn on hot water and that is no longer available. It has been a year since they say that development is working on it but I have yet to see anything put out about it being fixed. Due to this I would not recommend anyone buying it if they are looking for any type of integration or automation because since I’ve owned this water heater, the integration has been broken and when I have called and spoken to customer support they say that development is working on it but I have yet to see anything put out about it being fixed. Due to this I would not recommend anyone buying it if they were looking for any type of integration or automation because they do not focus on that aspect.
Rinnai, come on. You should have fixed this by now.

  • Worse than useless, dangerous scalding risk

This app requires the Rinnai Wi-Fi Module that has to be purchased at extra cost. The app is so bad, however, the extra cost actually makes performance of the Rinnai unit WORSE. For example, the method of controlling heated water temperature is so buggy that it randomly sets the temperature extraordinarily and dangerously high and then won’t allow changes! Plus, the customer loses manual water temperature control when the Wi-Fi module is enabled.

Using this app can lead to the dangerous risk of scalding burns.
The only way I found to manually restore water temperature to safe levels was to reset the Wi-Fi module and stop using this app.
An embarrassment, or should be…the app otherwise provides minimal for recirculating control. If your installer (mine was a Rinnai Pro) registered it for you, the app will reject all efforts to match the registration and force you to close the app since there’s no way to back out of registration. The app won’t show historical metrics about run-time, gas usage, or gallons of water heated. Rinnai management should be embarrassed by this app!
