  • Real photography revival!

The mystery (or is that mastery) of the art of photography comes to life with this app. This is not an app for someone who wants fun filters or easy edits. This is an app for someone who appreciates how far photography has come and wants to enjoy magic without sniffing silver halides.
  • Best camera app ever!!

Every picture I have taken with this app has been amazing. The results are beautiful. Very unique.
  • Fascinating, Jim.

This takes me back to the supply room darkroom I started out in with my friends Pentax. The magic that happened in those smelly trays thrills me forty years later. Thanks for recreating the experience here: I love screwing around with exposures and emulsions. Throw in a gray filter when you get the chance so we can play around more with depth of field. Dream list- the ability to under or over develop the negatives. Hope you make millions on this fresh fresh look at photography in the digital age. Fun!

  • Darkr

Amazing for editing and creating black and white photos. Complete, user friendly control of features like crop, burn, dodge, and blur.
  • Good app

I like that it emulates a more traditional process and with layers you can do some cool stuff. It’s not worth comparing it to say, gimp. That’s like apples and oranges: this is a mobile app and doesn’t simulate the actual chemical process but emulates it and the general process and artistry of a real darkroom. A lost art, many would say.

If it’s not for you that’s your business but personally I think downrating the app is mostly from people who don’t realise what the app is for. It’s worth a try if you like taking and manipulating photos. It’s good fun even without the pro stuff.

The only thing I wonder about is if the app uses the wide color gamut, which would be awesome. Also png/dng support might be another pro feature worth supporting.

    Thanks for the app

  • Glorified conversion to grayscale

The app doesn’t seem to be able to do anything you couldn’t do with GIMP by turning the image into grayscale and then using the histogram to adjust colour levels. Don’t see the point.

Thanks for your review. Maybe if I tell you the idea behind it, you'll know what makes it different than gimp (or any other image-editor out there). My main reason was that I felt that many of todays photographer don't know how an image was developed in the darkroom. Sure, you don't have to know it, but I still kind of feel that if you develop as one did back in the days, learning to really slow down and look at the image. The understanding of photography may be better. That's my hope. And that's why I have tutorials in the app. To teach how one could think and improve the image. Anyway, thanks for trying it and your honest review.
  • There are better less complicated apps out there

I was hoping for some great editing app but it takes to long to learn and the pay off for me wasn’t worth it. Example I could not get the pocket camera to shoot, no matter what I did. So I will stick my other apps.
  • Remarkable

I am a large and medium format photographer, best known for my portraiture. This is a super enjoyable app and a great way of using the iPhone camera. Among the highlights, my favorite is that the large format camera is just as fidgety as the real thing and demands a focus on composition in the same way. The film choices, dodging, burning, blurring, filtering and other options yield great photos. And you have to have a good eye, this is for people who understand, or are willing to learn, that artistry is proportional to effort. I will be eager to see how it develops over time.

    Developer Response

As you probably understand I have used large-format cameras and developed in the darkroom for some 20+ years. So my intention with this app was to make it as close as to the real deal as possible. And I can guarantee that I will add some more cool features. But only as they are in the real analog world :)
  • Wonderful!

I just downloaded it and unlocked it and it wants me to rate it, so no idea what it’s like yet... silly app :)

Ok, updating my review now I’ve actually had a chance to use it - it’s really very fine of course, if you have any idea what analogue film and darkrooms are this will take you back, and make you happy, enjoy!
