  • What does your conversation really mean?

With this app you will learn about double talk and the true meaning of your conversations. Definitions change through out periods, but the true meaning of wordsAre in theirEtymology.
  • Amazing App

This is such an amazing app!! I love this I use this all the time as a paralegal, college student and avid reader. To write well and to truly understand something it is so important to know the history of words. This app is the best app I have ever seen for understanding the etymology of a word.
  • Good

But would love to see features like night mode be implemented. Also to filter by greek or latin or a list that shows you how to more easily identify words of greek vs latin origin. Otherwise it’s good.
  • i like

when i have those days where my friend introduces a new word into my vocabulary i use this as a way to understand what that word means as well as trace back how far that word has come through time, whoever made this app i love that guy
  • Mostly great

I’m a huge etymology nerd and have spent many many many hours of my life on Wiktionary exploring etymology trees of words across many languages. This app is super exciting to me and offers some features that were either painful or impossible for me to do before, so it’s almost immediately improved my life and I bought the lifetime unlock pretty much right away. It’s a great example of applying fairly simple technology to a problem that ends up providing a ton of benefit.

The iPad app isn’t great, it feels like a stretched out iPhone app, and it has some notable layout issues (especially the family view while in portrait, where part of the display is cut off). The tree view also feels really large and displays very little information on the screen at once. I wish it made better use of the larger iPad screen, especially with long and complex etymologies where scrolling around a lot gets annoying. Horizontal scrolling in the tree is also pretty painful. Even just the ability to zoom out and see more of the tree at once would be awesome. The other feature that I’d really like is the ability to search for words across all or multiple languages. Right now it seems like it’s only possible to search within one at a time and it really limits my ability to find the words I'm looking for.

So, there’s definitely some basic stuff that could be improved, but even in its current form this app is a great supplement in etymological research!

  • Great app! But needs some work.

This app is very helpful for when you want to find a word’s origin or just for “rabbit-holing” on a bunch of cool words. I paid for the lifetime subscription, but I don’t see much of the benefit or really any change to the app, honestly.

Again, great app, but it could definitely use some work.
  • Improvement

Requires share link direct from each word
  • Wonderful Resource, but not always Accurate.

Great resource for anyone who relies on etymologies for any kind of academic exercise, or who simply enjoys exploring Philology. The accuracy of the genealogies, however, is sometimes seriously questionable. The app could benefit from a user-friendly inaccuracy reporting function.
  • Cool and educational

It’s an easy way to get lost exploring the relationships between words. I have been very surprised which words are related to others and the history of different words. For example, did you know the word hypochondriac actually comes from “below the ribs“ look it up!

  • Good app

It’s a very nice app that is very extensive. I just wish there was an option to buy it in a payment rather than subscription since it probably rarely needs updated.
