Why don’t the developers of this app read the reviews?

I started playing this app after the demise of the far superior EA scrabble app. At the end of the day, us scrabble enthusiasts want to just play scrabble in it’s purest form. We don't want rewards and flashing rubbish and we definitely do not want endless adverts between every turn, some of which have been very dubious in nature. When I complained about the fake diet pills ad, claiming that you can lose ridiculous amounts of weight in a week I was told they have no control over the ads! The old game came with an option to buy the Premium version for a fee of around a tenner I think which eradicated all the adverts. This developer is just money grabbing and a warning to anyone so fed up (polite version) of the constant ads, don’t bother with the monthly sub as that is a complete con too. Yes it stops the ads between turns but it doesn’t stop the ads every time you have to claim a prize or open a chest or whatever AND it takes away the option to actually choose to watch an ad if you want to use the letter swap or word suggestion, instead you have to use 20 gems. Overall very very disappointed that the developer can’t possibly read the reviews as there are loads of reviews like mine.

Scrabble Go Go Gone!

This could be a good app, but there are too many annoying features: (1) All the infuriating rewards that you are forced to take and do not intend to use. I don’t want a pretty ribbon round my icon. I don’t want different frickin tiles. I just want to play Scrabble. Give me a way of opting out. (2) The adverts are horrendous. I get it. You need to make this pay and I, and I suspect many others, don’t want to pay for the ad free version, it’s pretty expensive! But why allow such pain in the neck ads that (a) play for ages (b) require endless clicks to dismiss them (c) try and hide the exit buttons and (d) try and trick you onto the web or App Store. I’ve got to the point where I make a play and just close the app and restart it. I’m almost the point of abandoning the game. If it gets much worse (and it is getting worse) it will be simply too irritating. And then once the ads finish you pop up a screen suggesting I go ad free and when I dismiss that you pop up notices telling me this challenge or that challenge has started. Yuk!

Fun game, awful app

Yeah man I mean Scrabble is fun. This is Scrabble. But it’s like the app is trying to rob all possible joy out of the experience, it’s incredible to see it working against itself with such vigor. Mind-numbing loading times every single time you reopen the app, packed to the wall with oppressive ads that invade every element, every space of the app. I mean there are literally MULTIPLE ads after EVERY single turn. It’s faster to close the app and reopen it than to sit through all the ads (and again, that’s even with the excruciating loading times)! Not to mention all the frivolous add-ons, chests and prizes and cards and random useless things, which, hey, if you wanna add a new element to your game, whatever. But there’s no option to skip these animations, and the app forces you to go through these tutorials of how to access your “chest” or your “special tiles” or whatever, things you never need to use if you simply want to play Scrabble, and it just creates an incredible SLOW, CLUNKY, EXCRUCIATING gaming experience. That’s not even to mention all the times the app will inexplicably crash after 5 seconds of use. Honestly man, just get Words With Friends. I only use this app because I have ongoing games with certain friends. And I’m beginning to resent them for it.

Good, but crazy with ads

I got this game during COVID so I could continue to keep in touch with family members and play fun interactive games that also kept my brain engaged, and this game is good for that. In general, I understand that ads help to keep a game running if you don’t have to pay for anything before downloading the app itself, but the frequency of each ad in this app is absurd. You can’t go one turn without being forced to sit through a 10 second ad (at least), and often, the game gives so many ads that the app itself freezes and you have to close the app completely in order to get back to where you were. The only reason I still have it downloaded is because my family members enjoy playing with me because we don’t see each other as often as we’d like. If it was up to me, I’d delete it now. I’m sick of it.

*Another thing to note: this is true of most apps out there, but there are bots who try to steal your information on this app. There’s a feature where you can send messages to your opponent — which is meant for game history and polite trash talk — and a lot of the fake players will ask you for your name and socials. Do not respond to any of those messages. I shouldn’t have to say that but it’s just a reminder; it’s untrustworthy and easy to fall for.

It's saddening to hear that we weren't able to meet your expectations, Computerbro1. Rest assured that your input will be delivered to the rest of the team and will be considered when making future updates. Thank you!

A fun experience absolutely ruined by greed

I initially thought this app was a lot of fun, and the additional word games and experience on a digital platform was great. Once you break level 5, ads become enabled…

This wouldn’t be a big deal if it was just an ad between each completed game or something reasonable. It’s practically every turn (when it’s not every turn, it’s every 2 turns). It disrupts your thought process and ruins the game. It is quite literally faster to make your move, close the app, and relaunch it!! To add insult to injury, ads also get embedded in the header and footer anywhere they can stick them in the app, and occasionally ads have ads in them. I would be shocked if this wasn’t against the Apple ToS, and I’m planning to look into this. Most apps promise to shut off apps if you make a purchase with real-world currency. Not here, though. You have to subscribe to their monthly service perpetually and if you want to just buy the no-ads experience? $1 for 5 minutes of peace and quiet. That will get you… one turn.

This is simply the most revolting case of shovelware ever, and if you’re interested in playing digital scrabble? Look somewhere else. Even if the other options are worse, this company is so big that it doesn’t deserve your money.

Soooo buggy!

This is a great game but is unfortunately let down by the many screen freezes caused by their advertisements not playing properly. An ad. Plays and when you to try to close it, the game freezes and you can’t continue playing.
The fix is time confusing - you have to delete the ap, clear your web history, re-download the ap and hope it works.
This happens every session I play and it is such a waste of times.
Also the ads are way too long. I wouldn’t mind engaging with them but they become annoying instead. Short, shard adverts are much more likely to get a positive response and an intelligent web designer should know this.

Enjoy the game but ads blocking play

I enjoy this version of the game. I also liked that the free version had only brief ads. I understand the trade off between ads and something for free. Unfortunately though in the last 24 hours the multiple ads run by freegame23 run and run and won’t clear. After several tries of waiting it out, going in and out of the app and turning my phone off and on I’ve given up. I’ve deleted the app.

It’s good but…

I love the game and all, but do we really need all this extra stuff? I mean, the tile skins are great but seriously. Do we need cards? What’s the point in them?

The ads are okay but sometimes when I watch them to get an award, I can’t click on the x and I have to go out of game, go back and I lose my reward! Very annoying

A few issues

I absolutely love playing scrabble, I’d say it’s definitely the best scrabble game app in terms of the neat layout and no lagging etc. However, the cons outweigh the pros. 1) WAY TOO MANY ADS. 2) Random, unnecessary and annoying treasure chests. 3) Constantly have to claim rewards from you’re inbox instead of automatically receiving them. Firstly, the flipping ads! After every move you make, a 20-30 second ad pops up that you can’t skip. Also, some of these ads require you to press play so they are making sure you’re not just sitting there not looking at the ad. When you click the x button off some of the ads, another one will play straight after and you have to wait for that one as-well. I’m not being funny but how many times do I need to see an ad for “gardenscapes”? I’m literally not interested, if you’re going to flash the ads every two seconds, at least switch them up. Another issue that I find strange is the fact that you have some sort of music book as part of the winning rewards etc, as you play scrabble games you will acquire cards that are put into a treasure chest. I find this a really bizarre rewarding mechanism and completely unnecessary and time consuming. Also, if you do win other rewards such as diamonds or coins - be sure to constantly check your inbox to claim the rewards instead of just automatically receiving them.

Keeps getting worse

Wish zero stars was an option. In the 3 years I’ve had this game, it’s only gotten worse. First, the ads are an absolute atrocity. Not only are there FAR too many, they’re incredibly long-more than a minute in a lot of cases, and you’re forced to watch one after EVERY turn. It’s ludicrous. Second, why no more free tickets when opening chests? I get it-you want to make money. But eliminating occasional tickets is an incredibly terrible thing to do to users you supposedly care about. Third, the technical aspects are a joke. You’d think bugs and other issues would be improved upon, but somehow they get worse. A prime example is the Tumbler game which routinely glitches and gives microscopic letters you can’t even see let alone play with. It’s been like that for 2 years, and I’ve written customer service a few times about it. But like everything else, they reply with a cut-and-paste response that says “sorry you’re experiencing that. Rest assured our team is taking this issue very seriously…blah blah blah,” then NOTHING CHANGES! Just admit you can’t figure it out and there is no fix instead of lying to people! You can see said disingenuous response to complaints on this review board! Last, legit words that don’t count, and totally bogus ones do. Somehow “nth,” “pht,” and “cwm” are acceptable, but some real words aren’t! Sad because this game used to be so much fun 🤬
