Works %100 as I needed it to.
I wrote a bad review at first but that was because I was saving my files wrong. But Slugline is working perfectly for me now. I am able to write on my iMac and switch to my iPad or iPhone and write in perfect format then even back to my Mack book pro. I love this app it saved me
Simply works
I originally needed something to handle highland files but after using Slugline on iOS I started using on Mac too. Really like their outline handling and the general simplicity of Fountain. Only issue I have is note tag colors from Mac aren’t maintained on iOS and will actually reset if you update from iOS.

My Favorite Screenwriting App for iPad. Unfortunately.
This is my favorite screenwriting app for iPad. That is less a reflection of the greatness of this app, but rather the sad lack of a single desktop-class iPad application that uses fountain natively. This application is frustratingly given very little attention in terms of updates. Apps like Storyist for iPad were ready day one for iOS 14 with a slew of new features. This hasn’t been updated in months, and goes months between updates typically. As a full time user, it’s simply too important of an application to receive this little attention, and I wish the developer was able to give it more constant love. But I am at the mercy of this, simply because there is no fountain alternative. But in its favor, I have found that this application, above the rest, enables me to just write—which ultimately is what it is all about. There are some core attributes from the desktop version that have made it to the iPad version. But it needs to go far beyond that. It is begging for more modern design elements to reflect the powerful state of iPad computing. An iPad app these days shouldn’t be a stripped down version of the Mac app—it should be a supercharged version of the Mac app. Sadly, as it is currently constructed, it still makes me need a laptop, particularly in any sort of revisionary capacity. My hope is someday to be totally desktop independent for screenwriting. I imagine Slugline 2.0 for iPad will be a glowing 5 star application. But I am saving that rating for then. Hopefully that app comes out very soon, and updates are added on a far more regular basis. I am checking every day in hopes of an update in this regard. In the meantime, this is the best fountain option for iPad, primarily because it is the only option. The 1 star reviews for reliability I have found to be outdated, so I bumped mine to a 4 star to compensate. But I would truly give it a solid 3.
UPDATE: My former review—How can they possibly think setting the default font as something other than Courier is the right move? And more importantly, not even offer Courier as an option! This is so basic. Please fix this ASAP.—has been updated to reflect the app more fully. This is not to minimize the severity of this qualm, but to fairly reflect the application’s other virtues.
UPDATE2: I have begun experiencing reliability issues. Crashes. Lost sentences. Not a dealbreaker, but frustrating. I am waiting patiently for the next major update. But alas. Nothing. My most used app. The least updated app on my iPad. Very sad.
UPDATE3: The crashes are overwhelming. The app is no longer usable for me. It cannot deal with long documents. And by long, I mean screenplay length. Shame. Still dreaming of an update...
UPDATE4: Man. What a shame for this app to go so neglected. In that “All is Lost” phase… hoping for a break into (Slugline)3…

Slugline on the go
I have an iPad Pro with the magic keyboard. I’m not really missing a 15 inch MacBook Pro. :)
There are a couple features from Slugline 2 I’d like to see in the mobile version, but I understand those features—script compare is the most desired—may be too much for a minimal version of an already awesomely minimal application.
Keep up the good work guys. I’d rate this twenty times if I could.
ALSO: the developers are *extremely* responsive, in my experience.

Doesn’t sync, lost work
Clearly still buggy with files on iCloud storage, doesn’t sync consistently and I lost an hours worth of edits. Will be seeking a refund as this is unacceptable for the price of the app.
Wish it were stable...
...because I like everything about this app, including compatibility with Highland files. Minimalist and does everything I want so well. Unfortunately, it continues to be unstable, crashing several times an hour. Sometimes I lose all changes, sometimes not. For me, in my workflow, it’s unreliable and I have stopped using it.

Decent, but buggy
Pros:
- Uses fountain which is great
- Pretty good, simple UX
Cons:
- Crashes at least once per writing session, causing me to loose around the last 30sec to a minutes work
- Save to cloud setup could be more intuitive, I’m not sure how to have my work constantly backed up and synced to other devices (short of regularly ‘sharing’ to Dropbox / Apple files.
- Something weird with the autocorrect where it seems like often after a word is entered via autocorrect, a letter from the previous word ends up after your cursor.
For a $20 app, would expect at very least for it not to crash as much as it does!

Gave me what I needed to finish a script!
I have slugline on mac, but my issue was commitment to a project. I would never find time to sit at my desktop and work. But now I won’t have to! Writing on my phone felt unconventional, but quickly allowed me to work whenever and wherever. I can say that I have enjoyed using the interface and previewing my script as I go, and have had no issues booting the app. If you’re a fast phone-typer then you will love this application for all your screenplay needs!

The easiest iOS screenwriting experience
I’ve tried several screenwriting apps on iOS, and this is the only one that makes writing on my phone easy enough that I don’t have to think about it.
Writing in Fountain is great, especially on an iPhone where there’s no tab key. The formatting is taken care of with no more effort than a few caps here and there.
And with two taps I’m exporting a PDF copy of the script.
