  • Please, no more review prompts

The only bad thing about this app is every once in awhile, even though you have submitted a star review, they want you to write a review. So it'll open up the App Store, and bring up the Write a Review screen, and you can hit cancel, then close the App Store app, and get back to your reading...or you can write a review about how annoying having to write a review is, in the hopes that I'll never be prompted to write another review about this great app...also, apparently every possible nickname you can think of for your review is taken

  • Incredible

This app is a game changer. Even when I’m not using it to read different patristic meditations on scripture, it is my go-to Bible app because it’s so easy to navigate. More importantly it actually blows my mind that this resource is free, and I do not take that for granted. I think if they charged a pretty hefty subscription fee then that would be well warranted. (Don’t do that though! I can’t afford it! Lol.) The app makes it so easy to learn about scripture from the most trusted of resources, the writings of the Church Fathers. I recommend Catena to everyone I know. I think it’s my favorite app ever.

  • The Bible is useless unless…

The Bible is useless by itself. Thats why we have over 30 thousand different Protestant denominations! Too many interpretations! The fathers and doctors produced thousands of times of pages more than the Bible, explaining the God inspired interpretation of mostly every verse. That’s why it took 400 years after Jesus to produce the first Bible. All the written interpretations came with it! This is very compelling!! I love this very much. Thank you.

  • Best Bible App

It’s amazing to think how much is being offered through this app for free, without any in-app purchases or advertisements. The wisdom of the fathers is available for every Bible verse, along with cross-references and videos as well. What’s most amazing is how intuitive and easy to use the interface is. It is impossible for me to read the Bible without this app. The only thing I wish they could add is a search bar to look up key words or phrases. Aside from this quibble, this app is a must-have for any Christian.

  • Great tool for diving deeper into the bible

This app is great. The only issue I have with it is some of the formatting for some of the translations can be off at times. For example, Ive noticed many misspellings and grammar mistakes in the Douay Rheims translation. The commentary can also be hit or miss in terms of formatting and legibility. However, its overall a great Bible app, I especially enjoy the reading plan function, where you can choose a number of books and choose when you want to finish them, and then it will formulate a reading plan for you. I also like the daily quotes from Saints.

  • An app well worth the download. Always recommend

There are a few mistakes here and there, as is to be expected when dealing with so much material, but it is overall a very good resource for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of the Holy Scripture via the Fathers of the Church. Also a good jumping off point for further study of the works of these Doctors of the Faith. Look forward to more commentaries being added! Thank you for this app.

  • Reliable interpretation of Scripture as taught in Continuity

This is a wonderful app to see how the early church fathers interpreted the Sacred Scriptures. The name of the app means “chain”. It explains true meaning to Scriptures not found since after the Reformation happened. Instead did depending on any “Johnny-come-lately” Contemporary Pastor’s “personal interpretation”, learn how the Truth was interpreted through the Apostles directly to their Successors, in continuity: through an unbroken chain.

  • Revolutionized my Bible study

I have been using Catena for about 2 years now and what a difference it has made for me. My ability to read commentaries associated with Bible verses, my ability to highlight and save verses and commentaries, write my own reflections and insights regarding them and then have it handy when I need it has been instrumental in me beginning to understand and share. I do wish that the verses and commentaries that I save would be available on the app between my iPhone and iPad. As it is, I have everything on my iPad, and must have it with me during Bible studies and conversations. Moreover, Catholic Bible translation would be additionally nice to use, because the ability to switch translations of the Bible easily when a verse or word is difficult to understand has in itself been incredibly helpful. But not helpful in the Deuterocanonical scripture which is why another Catholic translation would be useful.
