This is why…
I had to start a, ‘free trial’ which was alright, but when I realised I literally could not access anything without getting the, ‘free trial’ I was so disappointed! I could only access the mode where I could view, not write.
This app would be a big hit for writers like me if it was actually accessible. Thank you for your time, and if I am wasting yours, do not pay attention to me. Adios!

We apologize for the confusion! To access the free trial, you'll need to subscribe to our service. We've chosen to utilize the standard App Store trial offered by Apple, which allows you to cancel anytime up to 24 hours before the trial period ends. We decided to offer a free download with in-app purchases so that we can provide a fully functional trial experience on the App Store. Please note that the available subscription options are listed in the app's description under "In-App Purchases." An elegant, aesthetically pleasing, and robust writing app.
Anything you write in Ulysses can be organized into groups and projects, so that you can make sure nothing you write gets lost or vanishes into oblivion. It also has a simple but elegant interface that has powerful features hidden around if you want to use them. Many of the features strike me as intuitive or elegant, never cumbersome.
I have never had any trouble with organizing documents, wishing that the interface looked cleaner, or losing files. If an elegant but powerful interface, finding something that can motivate you to exit writer's blocks, and having strong export features is important to you — then Ulysses is for you. Few word processors equal both its features and elegant interface at the same time. The application's appearance is integrated well with MacOS. You probably will never feel like it sticks out or looks ugly compared to your built-in applications. Overall, I highly recommend this app.
Exceptional App and Support
Before using Ulysses, I worked across several different apps. I wanted something intuitive, easy to use, and feature rich. But somewhere along the way I forgot the learning curves every other app has (looking at you Word - section and chapter breaks, headings, pagination, TOC formatting, and just about anything else marginally complex).
Then I tried out Ulysses. And the longer I used it, the more helpful I found the interface and style of inserting headings, bolding text, and adding italics. But the most critically important part of the app for me has been the support. I had a problem from my side, and when I contacted support I was able to communicate with a real person. This person was responsive, supportive, and helped me solve my problem.
There's no substitute for knowledgeable and supportive staff. The people at Ulysses have gone far above and beyond the service typical of most organizations today. Because of that service and how helpful their app is to my writing processes, I will be a lifetime customer. Once again, thank you all at Ulysses. Solid five stars - and I would give six if I could.

Almost fabulous
The reason it doesn't get more stars is that it's difficult to export my work successfully. I often have to export to Word and it loses all formatting, forcing me to spend time tidying up before I can share.
I'd also like to export to Scrivener and this seems impossible to do, or at the very best, quite time-consuming. (Probably the makers trying to hold on to their customers and not make it too easy to switch).
Working within Ulysses = 5 stars, but integration with other programs brings it down to 3.

Regarding your request, we understand that you're interested in exporting Ulysses to the Scrivener format. Unfortunately, we currently don't have any plans to support Scrivener format export in the foreseeable future. The main reason is that the Scrivener format lacks a fixed specification and can change unexpectedly. However, we do offer exports to formats like DOCX or Markdown, which you can import into Scrivener. Lacks basic Markdown syntax
My gripe with the app is that it has failed me on the most basic thing: you require complicated workarounds to write subscripts and superscripts in Ulysses. SUBCRIPTS and SUPERSCRIPTS. One would *think* that this is table stakes for an app specialising in servicing writers of all kinds, but it seems not. Since I rely heavily on this aspect of writing, I have to knock off two stars from what should otherwsie be a five star rating!
PS: their support team is responsive and v professional :-)
