RCAs (Rockfish Conservation Areas) are used to minimize contact with deeper-dwelling species of rockfish needing protection from fishing. The RCA boundaries are defined by straight lines connecting federal waypoints which cut across water in various depths. Recreational take of those groundfish species subject to RCA restrictions is prohibited seaward of these lines regardless of depth. These boundary lines are now built into the app and will automatically update to reflect the latest regulation change.  The lines can be shown even when you are out on the ocean, with no cellular signal. This update also includes a minor bug fix.

  • DO NOT TRUST this app!!!

I was counting on using this app to help with rockfish, identification and regulations. Unfortunately, the regulations are six years out of date, and have changed significantly! Fortunately, I had at least some familiarity with current regulations, and was able to avoid keeping illegal rockfish (listed as legal in this app) that could have resulted in a huge ticket.
In addition, their listing/map of marine protected areas is incomplete; Cordell bank national Marine sanctuary is absent!

    Developer Response

Hi, all current regulations are updated on the app daily. Cordell bank and many other features are on the app once you have a Pro subscription. Please contact support@fishlegal.info for assistance.
  • Easy to use, shows where u are

No one has time to futz with an app while fishing. This is easy to use, shows where you are. Good reference for no fish zones and showing your location helps keep you out of the No zone areas. Very helpful. Use it a lot.
  • useless

This app provides frustratingly imprecise positioning combined with a practically useless operator interface. Don't waste your time.

It would be quicker to drive to sacramento and grab a copy of the rules and memorize them.
