3.3.8

March 20, 2024

3.3.8 ==================== Fixes: • Comics with .cb7 extension won't open even when Panels supports it. 3.3.7 ==================== Fixes: • Fixed a concurrency issue that made the app crash randomly while loading page thumbnails. 3.3.6 ==================== Improvements: • Reduced memory consumption when reading PDF comics. Fixes: • Thumbnails of OPDS servers wouldn\'t render when the URL was external to the server. This issue was reported to affect MyLar, which uses ComicVine images. • One-finger zoom sometimes crashed the app. Additionally, this version prevents the creation of new Google Drive connections. The service integration has been discontinued due to the latest Google Drive policies (more information is linked in the app with alternative methods to pull your comics from Google Drive). You will be able to continue using the importer for a while if you already have your account connected, but it\'s very likely to stop working when Google revokes the old entitlements. 3.3.5 ==================== Improvements: More memory management improvements: • We have reduced the maximum memory allowance per page image from 3% to 2.5% of the total device memory. • Before decodign an image, Panels now checks whether or not it will fit in the available memory to avoid exhausting it. 3.3.4 ==================== Improvements: • Reduce the allowance of memory usage per page to reduce the chances of crashing due to memory exhaustion. 3.3.3 ==================== Fixes: • Random crash when reading. • Sometimes the readers crash when using one-finger zoom. 3.3.2 ==================== Improvements: • Speed up PDF rendering. • Reduce ePUB footprint. 3.3.1 ==================== Improvements: • Readers now consume less memory. • Added ePUB to imported UTI so Panels can handle it from other apps. Fixes: • Page images are not cached when generated from ePUB/PDF. • Thumbnails are not cached on disk. 3.3.0 ==================== Improvements: • ePUB Comic support • Live Text now shows a button on top of the reader to give feedback when the text/subject detection is complete. Tapping on this button shows the Live Text detection highlight. • Added another Live Text button to highlight the detected subjects to be lift-off the page. • A new Live Text section in Settings to hide/show the new feedback button, and to select the type of detection we want Live Text to do. (text only, subjects only, text + subjects). • Improved the internal logic to deal with RTL reading. • Adds UI feedback when deleting caches. Also shows the cache size. Fixes: • Clear cache also deletes URLSession caches and other temporary files. • Compressed files with a different compression method, but the cbz/zip extension doesn\'t work. • Dynamic background works incorrectly when reading RTL. • Dynamic background works incorrectly in vertical pagination and scrolling readers. • Pages miniatures sometimes fail to render, showing a black loading state forever. • Opening a comic from the widget can cause the app to present two readers, one on top of the other.

  • It was the best. Not anymore. [updated]

Important: Google Drive no longer support!!!

The application has been reorganizing its features to implement a strategy where users pay for specific functionalities, aiming to generate consistent revenue. However, if you seek a reader that also allows you to enjoy comics shared online, whether on forums or from public Google Drive links, the developer has chosen not to support this morally. Additionally, the support provided is lacking, with feedback being met with a defensive attitude. Moreover, users are unable to access their own library from the root folder, even if it's stored in their iCloud account. Essentially, enjoying comics through the app requires sacrificing storage space, and to exacerbate matters, personal server files must also be downloaded to function. Ultimately, these numerous restrictions render the app practically unusable. ——— Previous review: This is the best comic library app in App Store! I don’t understand why this developer is doing such an excellent app for a very small market as digital comic readers demographic. I mean, this is an app that Apple might design if they were after comic readers. So well executed and so user friendly that it need to be charged as a prime pro price level. Congratulations to the developer and hoping others apps will be as excellent as this one is.

  • Consistent…ly broken.

The reader (you know, the core part of the app) always seems to have some issue. The long prevailing one for me is the “vertical scroll lock” bug where when reading a vertical scrolling format piece of media, it will simply lock up and stop you from scrolling until you bring up the page carousel and tap on the page you’re on to fix the issue. Seems minor, but when you’re reading single chapters in a binge and it happens consistently 3/4 of the way through every chapter; it gets old fast. You’d also think it’d be fixed pretty quickly…. But it’s been over 2 months since my original support email detailing this bug with no response nor app update notes addressing it. Relegating me from a daily user to someone who checks every so often to see if the issue has been fixed. When it does, if it can just remain consistent for the amount of time I’ve been waiting for a fix I’ll come back with 5 stars. Until then, not so much.

    Developer Response

Hello, thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced with our vertical reader. As a small team of only 2 indie developers, we do our best to fix issues as quickly as possible, but sometimes it takes longer than we would like. We are aware of the issues in our vertical reader and are currently working on a completely new and improved vertical reader, which will be available in the next version (3.2.0) of our app. If you would like to gain access to the new reader sooner, please reach out to us via email or discord to join our beta testing group. We apologize for missing your previous email, we usually answer all of them. Next time we recommend sending a follow-up email or contacting us via discord, as 1-star reviews do not accurately reflect the quality of our app and only serve to hurt our product. Thank you for your support and we hope you will give us another chance once the new reader is available.
