A great idea but slow and old systems.

Love the ethical stance Triodos take, after taking my time to do due diligence I signed up through the app and I’m still waiting on my application, many working days after registration. It’s clear from the reviews that Triodos works like banks used to work, minus the high street branches. Yet, they operate with an app and have a challenger bank vibe, however they lack the features of other challenger banks, the majority of which can give you an account in minutes. This dated mindset to financial services seems to be common with companies that say they have a ethical stance, as much as I really want to use ethical companies, confidence in my personal financial services will always come first.

Recent update has solved all complaints

The new account summary has not only solved my original problem of struggling to differentiate between accounts but has gone above and beyond by including info such as the amount paid into my ISA this tax year, how many fee-free withdrawals I have left this period, and more!
So impressed I have actually left a review on the App Store, well done 👏

Dated

I hold an ISA with Triodos. Gripes with the app: no facial recognition login and a convoluted process for paying in funds. Rather than being able to simply pay straight into the ISA by debit card or DD, I have to transfer cash to a cash account which then gets moved to the ISA. Feels like the customer has become involved in a back office function.

I would consider opening a current account but the years of delay in deciding whether to offer Apple Pay and general lack of innovation on the digital side have put me off.

We hope to have mobile payments available by the end of the year. We are aware of how popular making contactless mobile wallet card payments is with customers. In the meantime, we have asked our customers to carry their debit card with them to make payments. Or suggest other open banking providers that you can register your card with to do that, such as Curve or SumUp, however please bear in mind fees or charges that the provider may apply and consider what data privacy or security the provider has in place. Great ethics but a couple of glitches

Generally very good. App easy to use. Clear information in notifications.
But difficult if having to pay in cheques. Posting them seems really old fashioned and backwards.
Also unable to access the website without 2 devices. I had to renew my iPad just to access the website and often I’m away without WiFi (for iPad) without which I still can’t access the website to initiate changes.

Priorities all wrong

Latest update which allows savings goals shows how confused Triodos are. They've clearly seen how outdated their banking is and are trying to put a tiny plaster over a huge crack by implementing a feature from other banks that I cannot imagine anyone with Triodos is asking for. Meanwhile the web banking is still two different interfaces in one and you can't contact a person from the app.

Customer service is poor too. I recently asked come questions around security (it seems mighty easy to transfer £20,000 with minimal verification) and they couldn't have been more dismissive or defensive. Meanwhile they are still not supported by most Open Banking APIs and they've closed down products such as the Junior ISA. Been with Triodos for years and I am increasingly feeling that they are not interested in customers, just the deposits for lending to ethical business.

Comfortable

Triodos bank is the only one I feel really comfortable banking with. I have a couple of accounts with other banks, because not all organisations recognise Triodos, but the level of customer service, ease of use, and general ethical behaviour of Triodos makes me wish I could hold all my accounts with only them. Thank you, Triodos, for making banking comfortable. 🙏🏻

Convenient structure but not VI accessible

This app is easy to navigate and tells me what I want to know, but it ought to enable larger font size, especially round the edges. it doesn't even allow the contents to be stretched like web pages can be.
The necessary "Reasonable adjustment" we should have is for the app to pick up on the phone's own accessibility settings - larger font, bold etc and apply them to all text.

Great ethics, more digital

I’ve just moved to Tridos for more environmentally friendly banking. I love that I know my money is going to ethical causes and I like the detail on the projects. But for the App specifically I do miss the tech with my old highstreet App such as Apple Pay, Chat function, and card access (E.g. disable digital card, access pin etc all via the App).

It’s important where my money is going so I’m sticking with it, it would just be helpful to have some of the convenience features mentioned as I’d probably only recommend it to friends with some of these.

Clunky (and now also in denial)

Original review below which Triodos tried to dodge with a vague reply. The issue is known to them. You cannot use their debit card on Apple wallet, it’s not compatible.

f this doesn’t bother you and you’re happy to trade having a slick app and web bank for the satisfaction that they only invest ethically, then fine. But if you’re used to having a top banking service you’ll find their simple app frustrating. After a few months of not being able to load my card onto my phone and getting repeated messages I was unable to read I was ready to move to a bigger, slicker big bank. This works like the internet circa 1995.

Why can’t I use my Triodos card on my phone? Some direct debits don’t work. No one calls to explain why. Great that it’s an eco bank but lots of downsides as it’s so basic.

Good bank let down by bad app.

I really want to support Triodos because they’re one of the few banks that are proactive on climate, but I’m not great with understanding/tracking finances and really rely on a good app to do that. This is not a good app, it’s missing some incredibly basic functions like Apple Pay, being able to see upcoming payments, and even accurately reporting the date that a payment was made (which is a bit scary and can look like someone’s made payments you’re not aware of). It’s also slow and unintuitive. I gave it some time, but am switching back to Monzo for day-to-day banking.
