Has potential

Beautiful interface.
Intelligent tools.
Not enough to compete as a paid app yet.
I have some suggestions.

Priceless

Would never do without it! Instinctive and great.
Only thing I would add is after drawing something (I’m an architect) would be good if could select drawing and change the pen or pencil you initially drew. More technical apps do this. Quick sketching and notes. It’s the best. Technically drawing and layers… I use other apps. (I use Flow the most and have most of my office using it. )

Subscription REQUIRED

There’s not even a chance to test the app to see if you like it before you purchase a subscription, like you literally can’t even draw a scribble first. Yeah there’s a “free trial” after you submit your card info and lock in for x amount of months. Let me see if I like it before you take my money. Deleted.

Been using for a while, and I enjoy it (mostly)

I have recently begun to use this app for notes again. I've enjoyed it for a while, and the new updates have improved it for sure (layers, the new UI). Also there is less bugs which is nice, since 3 years ago it performed fine but with the occasional bug. I love drawing and taking notes on it; it is very simple and satisfying to use. The infinite canvas feature also makes this app stand out.

This may be an unpopular personal preference, but I was not a fan of the new way the highlighter tool colors now. I enjoyed how it would work before (making the color darker with each stroke, which allowed for overlaying colors much like an actual highlighter would). It works fine now, but I wish I could have an option to switch between how the highlighter would color things.

It's nothing too big of an issue that would make me stop using the app- I still enjoy it and plan to continue to use it. It's reasonably priced for an annual subscription. I do enjoy this app overall.

Cannot try before buying

There is no way to trial the app without going through a paywall, so it’s a no from me.

One little thing.

With moleskin being synonymous with notebooks that I use everyday I would love if there was a setting to simulate that here like in paper by wetransfer, but with flows better tools and layers.

Hi - thank you so much for taking the time to leave us this amazing review! Every bit of feedback like this does so much to help us out. The blending tool is not available yet but this feature is already listed on our feature request board: https://bonobo.canny.io/flow/p/blend-tool. Please add your vote to help bump it up to our list and also so that you'll be notified automatically if the status changes. We’re very grateful for customers like you and hope you stick with us for years to come! Regards, Rica

Amazing for creatives

Really good for jotting down my continuous stream of ideas via an infinitely scrolling page, which means I don’t need to make all these new documents and organize them; I just jump straight into the action without thinking.

Mixed experience

The design is lovely and especially the pens. However I’ve noticed a couple of limitations that deter me from buying a subscription:

1) though pen lines look sharp during drawing, once you lift your stylus/finger, the lines become lower resolution - as if jpg compression has been applied. They stay that way. That puts me off using the app for art.

2) though there are options to see page edges rather than just an unbroken horizontal scroll of paper, there is no way to “turn the pages” like a notebook. This is unwieldy for taking notes, because when you swipe the canvas, you don’t always move it far enough to get a whole blank page. This put me off using the app for notetaking in work.

If the above points aren’t important to you, there’s lots to like here - but for me they are problems.

Not a free app - can’t even try

Don’t download this - you literally cannot do anything without a membership. Apple needs to start dinging these apps for lying about being free. Stop letting developers lie to your users, apple Update: the developer sent a condescending message in response to my FYI for the community saying, “In the future, it is best to read an app’s description in order to avoid future disappointment.” Seriously? And “it’s disappointing when things aren’t free, isn’t it?” Ugh. Just don’t have it labeled as free then, real easy. Sending obnoxious messages suggesting people don’t know how to read isn’t going to make anyone use your product.

Further Update: I’m not sure why the developer keeps sending me responses with the exact same information. I have no idea why they say they can’t control the information that is listed about the app because that is false. Regardless, this review is not for the developers, it is for people who are looking for a free app. This isn’t a free app and that is not clear. End of story. Please stop sending me messages

Response from developer

Hello again, unfortunately app developers do not have control over how apps are labelled on the App Store. If the apps are free to download and try out for a trial period, they must be labelled as free. We would love if this App Store system was improved as well so it could be clearer for everyone. At the moment, the only thing any app developers can do is explain their trial and subscription in their app descriptions.

Layers?

The only thing that was stopping me short from giving this app a five-star review was the lack of layers. I can't resist now! With layers and cloud syncing this it deserves More than 5 stars!

Response from developer

Hey thanks for the feedback - you can also lasso by tool type and quickly delete everything in your selection. Having a single layer is a design we came to not from a technical perspective but rather from thinking about our experience using various drawing apps - a difficult design decision given our familiarity with all the creative tools we used so often. We ultimately found that with it we drew quicker, stayed in our creative headspace and simply enjoyed drawing more. I'd recommend trying it out even if it feels strange at first and see how you go! Cheers
